Hilarious.

I hate to say so, but I am also frustrated with the search features of this site. I say this whole site, rather than this forum, because searching for parts is also often too difficult. Sad to say, but other sites (certain competitors) are much easier to use when looking for some esoteric part, and without part sales this forum fades away.

Mostly searching for previous posts and threads on this forum yields tons of irrelevant stuff. Yes, an improvement in the search engine would be welcome.

Eh...just giving you a hard time.

Oh, and it's "query" (and "deviate"..."replied"...and "ass")

I have been accused of being a "search Nazi" because I suggest using it (I am not guilty of saying anything to Jonny). I admit that the Pelican search can be more time consuming since you cannot use parameters normally associated with modern search engines. Having said that, there is still good reason to use it. Among other things, I have found great info on other topics while searching my original question. Also, not duplicating info helps our host by reducing storage size. Finally, there are folks who no longer post here that had great wisdom. I have found that as you have been here longer you get a sense of what key word will get you where you want to go. It may take a few pages but doing the research is part of the fun. Kind of like looking up the torque numbers when doing a repair. When all else fails (or I'm on a short timetable) I will post the question after doing a shallow search.

See, somehow it makes sense that they wouldn't use a modern engine.

Point is who has such a sad life they would want to chastise someone by IM?

One thing to keep an eye on is the dates on the searched post results. A brake or engine mod that might have been the hot ticket in 04 might not be so hot in 2010 or has been perfected over the years.

So keep an eye on the dates or search based on date posted.

Well said.....

Have a good week, folks!
The search function is great, of course. Sign in/log on before using it so you don't have to mess with the "coded phrases"....simplifies things greatly. You will (and others) not EVEN believe how much you can find.....truly amazing. I have learned a bunch myself, even..........

If the search function is driving you nuts go to Google and click the "Advanced Search" link and search from there. At the bottom in the "Search within a site or domain:" field put in forums.pelicanparts.com. This will allow you to search for 2 character words and use more advanced syntax.

Additional helpful tips are: Put phrases in Quotes; Put a leading Plus sign on a word/phrase to force only items containing that to show; Put a leading Minus sign on a word/phrase to ignore all pages with items containing that.

there are those out there that prefer to open repetative threads and tell people to do a search. my view towards this is, maybe the person did a search, and like me, found tons of stuff that did not match or answer my question due to most of the replies being "do a search" instead of just answering the Q. that is very frustrating having to weed through all the "do a search" or "subscribed" replies. (dont get e started on that one). if all you have to say is "do a search", then dont open the thread or dont reply, they will figure it out if no one replies. yes, i get tired of seeing the same posts, but maybe like me, sometimes people just want to talk about their cars or maybe, they may want some new opinions on an old subject. this forum is VERY large, perhaps the biggest and most active. so just about everything has been covered at one time or another. now imagine if EVERYONE did a search. the new posts would come to a screeching halt. so be a little more felxible about the "do a search replies", if you dont want to answer someones question, dont open it. if you are tired of seeing a subject brought up, dont open it.
you know, people should be getting on to the posters about vague subject titiles, or having to request a year of their car. i would like to see the year in the subject title, but thats just me.

i think it was wrong for someone to go to the trouble to PM you to do a search, bet it made you feel like a 5 year that is getting scolded by your parents.

this brought to you with monday morning love

if you have done a search, then post that you did so and what terms you used

that way people can help you use better terms to find what you want
