Where are you located? Where would this drop clinic be held? I would love to help and meet some Porsche people in my area (yorba linda). Sounds like a lot of fun. Maybe everyone could coordinate what tools we need all get together.
Keep us informed! Chris |

Mikes 3.2 has nothing to envy a 3.6 for. Believe me, I've tried to keep up with him. Even on the straights, it wasn't happening.
Keep in mind it's a Euro 3.2, and I don't know that it's totally stock (although it might be). And his car only weighs 2200 pounds. That car is fast.

Curt,
If I could put a 3.6 in my car and stay in the same POC class it would be done. Of course if I did that then I would really smoke you on Angeles Crest. ![]() ![]() Jack, my motor is completly stock except for the headers and a chip. the 2200 lbs helps alot. But we will make it better, stronger and faster then it was before. Orbmedia, are you serious about banging on the head? I was talking to my buddy on the phone tonight and after discussing it, I'm sure of what happened. I didnt actually go from 5th to 2nd, I went from 4th to 3rd. I think thats why only one cylinder is bad. I was actually following him. when we got into turn eight there was some much slower traffic ahead of us. Normally your in 5th gear and you brake and downshift to 4th for turn nine which leads onto the front straightaway. the cars in front of us were going so slow that I downshifted again into 3rd in hopes of getting a stronger run onto the straight. We both passed the slower traffic and I shifted to 4th gear. I never made it to 5th gear before I had to brake for turn 1. I guess I'm so used to the mechanics of downshifting for turn one, which is normally a 5 to 4 gearchange that I shifted from 4th gear to 3rd gear instead. 100% my fault, head up ass. I'm still getting a Robotek. For the local Guys I live in Palmdale. about 15 min from Willow Springs.

Sundays are probably the best day because, I work on Saturdays and although I'm off on Monday and Tuesday also, most people have to work those days and the traffic would be awful anyways. What works for everybody else?

about the robotech.........i don't care what anyone says about the $300 i spent on it. so far, it has been the best money and 50 minutes i've spent on my car.
it isn't 100% foolproof, though. i suppose that i could still think i need 2nd, go there, and determine later (at the expense of a motor) that i really needed a higher gear. or, i could let the adrenaline get to me and not realize the force i've placed on the shifter and not feel the spring loaded resistance, and go into 2nd anyway. BUT............i feel better with it installed, and would depend on robotech (now that i've seen it), rather than the 15 cent spring solution proposed by someone in my robotech thread. nothing against the creative ones out there, but this "feels" like a good outlay of my cash. |

Don't lose your mind, Leland.
When you get back to America, you can take your car to Willow Springs and blow it up. Then we'll get all the SCWDP members we can to help you drop the motor for another Pate-rebuild. Feel betta now?

Engine drop Day
Ok, The day I am dropping the motor will be the 27th of January. Anybody who would like to come over to help or supervise is welcome as the help and advice would be much appreciated. I've never dropped one before so... If your interested send me a PM.
Curtis you could come the back way through Angeles Crest and not only is it a great drive but it will only take about 45 minutes to my driveway. ![]() This is before the day went bad ![]()

Great picture! (Although it looks like he came back. Does the other Michael have the headlight bucket out for cooling?
I will try and clear my schedule, so that I can stand around with my hands jammed in my pockets, wishing I had Tyson's skills. ![]()

Leland,
Don't feel so bad...I'm in the middle of nowhere and there's hardly anyone on this board that lives anywhere close to me! See, at least when you get back, you'd be close to the action! For me? EVERYTHING is sooo close...yet so far away. ![]()

I know we're miles and miles away, but somebody please take a digital camera and snap off a few pics for our benefit. It'd make a great topic on Pelican!

Speaking of pulling the motor, has anyone used/seen the jack adapter that is being offered on ebay (the guy makes them so they are always for sale)?

![]() Michael..come June? When you're up here for that early S drive? Remind me to tell you about a 5-2 shift that happened when I wasn't driving...happened recently, last May, destroying a 30 year friendship. That hurt more than the shop bill! Damn, I hope you have a GREAT drop day. Is NW microbrew available wayyyy down there? ![]() Last edited by pwd72s; 01-18-2002 at 08:32 PM.. |

Mike sorry to here about your car.
I know I wasn't there, but I bet if the owner of the 914 would have had a dry chemical extinguisher, he would have been able to save most of the car. Halon is nice for not making a mess, but you won't see me carrying one on my fire engine or in my car! |

Engine Drop-27th January
Leland, dont worry, when you get back home there will be Porsche parties all over the place for ya. Think of all the experiance the board will have gained and we'll all be itching to drop motors and rebuild trannys.
Paul, Does my recent shifting blunder mean I dont get to take the Virgin for a ride. I promise I would be gentle and treat her like a lady. ![]() Makaio, Thanks, Hopefully it will be back up and running by the end of next month. Tim, the guy whose 914 burned down, actually had a chemical extinguisher but the fire was too big. Fuel had leaked all over the ground under the car while he was inside the bar. And Finally Jack, the picture you posted was actually the lap before the picture I posted, So, I was actually catching him...cough...cough, yea, thats it I was actually catching him. ![]() Oh yea, He did cut out the back of his headlight bucket to allow more air to reach the cooler, Works well, temps never above 180. he's thinking of switching to a front one like mine though.
