color name question

doing a little searching on here it seems the general consensus is that ziegelrot is known as "brick red". my paint sticker says ziegelrotmetallic, something i have not seen mentioned here before (metallic that is). over the weekend as a DE event i met a fellow who speaks fluent german and was told that "ziegel" actually means "winner", so if this is the case how it is that the color code is known as brick?

Good question. I did a little Google translating and never got "winner" for "ziegel."

To throw another wrench into your mystery, my factory sample book lists the color as Kiln Red, not Brick Red.

"Winner" in German is actually "der Sieger" (masculine) or "die Siegerin" (feminine), literally "the victor." "Sieg" means "victory," as used in a well-known phrase I won't repeat here. Many Porsche racing posters include the word "Sieg" or its forms, including this one I'd love to own someday (well, at going rates maybe just a reproduction):

Sieger in German is winner as mentioned here before.

ZIEGEL means brick, believe me I live close to Germany.

well i guess i can chalk it up to american vs german accent when explaining it to my friend. funny, it doesn't look like any color of brick i have ever seen, but at least i know what it is now.
