Need some help - replacement of targa window corner seal
I'm trying to replace the corner seals on my 84 911. The seal is this part:
Pelican Parts - Product Information: 911-542-065-41-M260 Anyone know how? It doesn't look possible without removing the entire corner window. Please help. Thanks, Ken

This might be a good place to start. As far as the window frame removal, that would be a lot more work. The frame is held in with two bolts on the outside of the door, and one inside the door. These serve as height and horizontal adjustments. Please check page(s) 640-1 of your Bentley. Good luck, Gerry

I did this recently while changing out all the vent window rubber. Not fun. I think it all has to come out, because the lower two holes are in the vertical between the vent window and the regular window. Not only that, but the lower part of the corner is held in by some very odd rivets, which most people, including me, have to improvise to replicate. I used pop rivets and some washers which did the job, but not perfectly. Be ready for a pretty big job.
If you decide to go for it I can give a more detailed description. Mike

Yep, as far as I know, the window frame has to come out of the door to replace these. I gather that it's a whole lot of work - only gather, though, since I'm sufficiently intimidated by this to have not replaced mine, though they need it badly. And then there's the problem, noted above, of finding rivets that will work properly - and then, installing them. Yikes!

I'm very interested in the long, detailed repair. Pelican sells the rivets that go in the "lower" holes. I bought those too. I am going to have to do this, as I ripped the passenger side one (thinking "Hah - big deal, I have the new one in my hand!")..... Thanks, Ken

You must take out the window frame and disassemble to do this properly.

The rivet has a head and a flattened side. I drilled the head side after punching a small divot to keep the drill bit from sliding off. I think I started with a 1/8th drill bit and went up one size until the rivet spun. then I took a small chisel and hammered the tip of the flattend side off. You just have to be careful not to open the hole in the frame. The rivets are copper and I ordered from our host along with the rubber tips. It is not really complicated , just tedious. Take your time and you'll be ok. The hard part is hammering the new rivet , and as I said my Porsche mechanic slid a buck into the channel and hammered the rivet flat. The rivets are copper so they are maleable but you must be careful to not nick the frame.
