EARLY 901/01 ENGINE Block '64 dated

Hi,
Found an EARLY 901/01 ENGINE Block '64 dated....and 901/01...under that mark there's 504 stamped.....unfortunately no engine number yet.....possibly an early 1965 911 aluminium engine block????? and crankshaft....
Or could it be a 1964 block?
ATB

That engine serial would be 900604 and a fairly early 1965 engine. Count the dots around the year at let me know; that tells you the month, check each case half for the date since they may be the same or not. The 504 is the build #, so the 504th production engine built. What are the casting numbers on the side of the case; 901.101.10x.xx each side is different.

Hi can't post the pics because they are a *.bmp file....
It appears 901/01 and underneath 501 or 504, it's difficult to see wether it's a 1 or a 4 But looking at it again I think it's 501 (like levi's :-))

One case half is 901.101.101.01 and underneath that is a circkeld H

I think there are 11 dots surrounding the build year of 64

I bought it on a few pictures alone and it probably will be send in approx. a week's time...

If 11/64 casting date, it should be a ’65 engine or spare part.

This should be interesting bit of Porsche history.
Thanks for posting.

Here is how to convert *.bmp to *.jpg or *.jpeg:

What is surprising me is the case wasn’t sold with images of the engine number.

Correct me if I’m wrong, if the case is assigned a type number (901/01) shouldn’t it have an engine number?

Dave (Pelican djpateman) reports the engine number would be 900604 – I assume based on the build sequence 501.

If it is a spare-part case, shouldn’t it have no numbers other than the matching-halves numbers?

If it was a spare part case, it is used and not NOS as it has oil pressure relief valve(s) and oil fittings installed - among other.

Keep us informed when you get the case.

Best,
Grady

Hi,
Finally got my hands on the case, it's in very good nick inside and outside....

Here's the long awaited numbers....
*900601*
901/01
501
case halfs both 720
so matching case
year 11/64
What car would it have belonged to?
Anyone searching...
Was wondering since I haven't got the rest got a spare 901/03 magnesium 2,0 Liter engine, engine with aluminium cylinders lying around. What can I use to complete the aluminium case and get a running engine?
