wheel hub/rotor wtf?
well, first I removed the 5 13 MM nuts that hold the
hub onto the rotor disk and NOW i am trying to get the Grease Cap off.... After a considerable amount of pounding and swearing, the hub has started to separate from the Brake Disc and the Grease Cap hasnt budged. Is this bad? In other words, should I have removed the Grase Cap first and THEN remove those 13 MM nuts? Did I just break my car? Thanks. EM |

Dang, lost a long note. Ah well. No, you didn't hurt anything. I use a HUGE 'channel-lock' type plier and a rag to protect the cap. I use the large (about 2' long) plier to wiggle it off. Sometimes takes several minutes.
The rotor and hub are separate parts. You didn't hurt anything. Be sure to torque those mounting bolts carefully and accurately when reinstalling the rotor onto the hub.

You didn't break anything. Just grab the grease cap with channel locks and wiggle back and forth. It will come off. Just don't pound it back on for future removal. You may want to consider removing the rear rotor shield while you have access. Pretty useless and will allow more air to get into the rotor of cooling.

there's no reason to remove the 5 nuts that hold the rotor to the hub to replace wheel bearings. just the cap and the pinch clamp under it.
