problem removing front bumper...

tried taking the 4 bolts off holding the front bumper on but they just turn, and turn, and turn, and turn, with no change... any suggestions or help?

Should just be 4 nuts behind the rubber strip on the bumper (on a 74-89 911). Maybe a previous owner modified your bumper? Oh, and you also have to detach the accordion pieces...just the two small nuts that attach near the wheel well.

They're definitely nuts, attached to 4 threaded studs that protrude from the front of the bumper shocks. If you're working on bolts, something's wrong there....

your studs may have come unwelded? Hard to imagine, but possible I guess. After removing the accordions you may be able to get at the shocks and undo those to pull the bumper off. Each bracket has 2 bolts and the one at the end of the shock to get them out.

yes nuts. the nut turns but doesn't come any farther off. so the socket turns the nut and bolt

Are you sure the stud is turning? Either the threads are stripped and the studs are not turning, or the studs have come un-welded.

yes it is. and on closer inspection the nut on it appears to be different from the other 3. what size are the nuts? because i don't seem to have anything that fits snugly.

When I removed my bumper 3 came off easy but one was spinning like yours. As suggested the weld came off and left behind a neat hole - almost like it was supposed to have a nut and bolt.

I expect yours is the same. When you reassemble you can simply use a nut and bolt or reweld a threaded rod (or bolt) back onto the bumper shock. I'm pretty sure the nut is an M10.

It's an easy fix.

how did you get the last one off?

Mine just came out when I tried removing the nut.

If this doesn't work you might be able to tap it out or in the worse case cut it off. I had a few rusted nuts and bolts where I used a dremel. In your case you could cut it, use a 10mm drill bit to redo the hole and then use a fresh nut and bolt.

BTW - I edited my previous post with nut size of M10

found out one way to do. turned a little and then snapped off. guess i didn't use quite enough Blaster.
