Does a engine rebuild/leak down test question

Hello,

I am still quite new to the forums so I hope that I am posting in the correct place.
I am looking to buy a 81 911sc with less than 300miles on the rebuilt engine. The engine was rebuild about 1year ago and I am skeptical as to why he has only put 300miles on it. What do you guys think about that?

I asked the current owner if he would be okay with a PPI and he told me that he wouldn't be completely comfortable because the leak down would somehow harm the new engine that hasn't been broken in yet. Is this true? I am already cautious about buying a 30yr old car as it is. Also, the rebuild was carried out by motor meister...I would appreciate any and all advice.

Well your going to get a lot of advice about that Motor Meister engine. Do a search about motor meister and all your questions will be answered. I see too many red flags about this car. Check out the posts prior to talking to the seller, please.

You are posting in the right place, start your search here after blotting out the guy with the newly rebuilt Motor Masher engine. A leakdown might blow that motor up (so might running it), anything is possible with one of his rebuilds!

Welcome to the Forum
You are in the ‘right’ place.
You will find a lot of help here.

Please don’t buy a 911 without a through PPI or two from independent (of the seller) experts.
There has been a lot of discussion here about everything from what a PPI should include to what it cannot tell.

Start the process by taking a friend (Pelican, PCA, other) who knows Porsche to inspect the 911.
Even on a 911SC or Carrera, rust and prior crash damage repair can be an issue.

My best advice:
Look at a LOT of cars. Educate yourself.
Keep your money in your pocket until you are sure.
Post details here for critique. You will get a good, wide range of opinion and good (free) advice.
Pay top dollar for absolutely the best example you choose to afford.
Retain 30%+ for unforeseen issues.


Buying a 911 with a rebuilt engine or transmission should include every detail of the rebuild.
That includes parts invoices, machine work invoices, dimension measurements and photos.
There are many very good, experienced, professional engine rebuilders (MM notwithstanding).
Many ‘DIY-rebuilds’ rival professionally built engines and should include even more documentation.



Just to be clear:
Neither a cylinder leak (leakdown) test nor a cranking compression test can damage an engine.
They just tell you the truth about condition.


We should all feel for the owner who probably spent good money for a *** rebuild.
He only drove his 911 300 miles in the past year.
Look at his resale potential.
Another candidate for a ‘class-action’.

You are right to be sceptical. There is a good reason that the new owner is selling his newly rebuilt ride... He probably discovered a major problem with the engine, then tried to come to a solution with MM during the next eleven months...
After being left in the cold he decided to sell his misery...
Or something like that...

i woudl stay clear just because the guy "thinks" a leakdown will hurt the motor, not to mention the other word we are not allowed to say. BTW, those that said it must put $1 in theporsche fund
