Just returned from dinner and a nice surprise on my way home to San Pedro:
Scary when tires are only meant for Dry/Wet (mostly dry SoCal) Conditions not Hail ( 1/4"-1/3" round in size): ![]()

I-5 over the grapevine was shut down tonight due to snow.
I got caught once in a snowstorm in the 'SC and had to turn back at the grapevine. It took me over an hour to get to Santa Clarita. I used an entire tank of gas stuck on the freeway. It was a miracle that my dog did not pee in the car - awesome dog I have. People were on the side of the freeway out of gas, and others were taking a whiz on the side of the road. Old Porsches are not great snow cars. |

It just amazes me when I hear that snow & rain are bad for our babies, Don't get me wrong I prefer dry conditions but don't they have snow or rain in Germany?

Yup, hence the cold galvanized sheet steel bodies. And the ambient air valve takes hot air from the crankcase to prevent the throttle from freezing open in cold weather cruising.
I went to Sacramento last week in a HUGE rainstorm in the 3.2 Carrera. The spoilers added so much to the top speed stability, I think I would've ended up in the guardrail otherwise. I was hydroplaning, but then the front tires are nearly bald. It comes down to the tires. The Fuzion ZRi tires that I have on there do a pretty good job in the rain. The SO-3s were excellent rain tires before they were NLA. |

Hmmm, I've got Conti's DW waiting to be installed, TireRack rated them pretty high, I hope so. Goodyear Eagle GS-D3 are NLA

I actually got a little drive in today. It cleared up early afternoon. Cool, but some sun. Rain came back tonight.

A Porsche is a great snow car. You just can't run wide summer ultra grip tires in the winter and expect any real traction though. And adding a limited slip takes the car into the spectacular winter car category.
