Question on installing tensioner collars

I tried searching for up to a minute with no luck

I am installing the safety collars on my SC's mechanical chain tensioners. The instructions say to rotate the engine 360 degrees. When I try to turn the engine over using a breaker bar, the alternator belt is slipping (belt is new and recently installed by my mechanic.)

Tranny is in neutral. Do I need to pull a spark plug, or what?

Jason

Well no, just turn slow and in the correct way. push in on the belt while turning the wrench. should spin right over. You can here the air leak out between turns. Also, check the belt tension while your in there. (and cam timing, and valve clearance, and new gaskets, and new locknuts.....) It never ends

Jason:

You can place a finger on the alternator belt, right-side, as you apply force with your breaker-bar and it should turn. If the belt still slips, then it must be on too loose.

You can remove a shim from between pulleys to compensate and make the belt tighter, a little tricky, so try above first.

Just my .02 cents.

Good luck.

Good point! If this was all that was keeping me from turning the key I'd stay out there all night... Have quite a few little projects going on!
