question on replacing brake bleeder valve.
Hi,
I was in the middle of replacing brake fluid and found that one of my front bleeder valve was stuck, and even bent (crooked) I think. Got new valves now but couldn't take off the old valve. I am thinking of blowing torch to it, but not sure if I should blow the fire directly to the valve, or the caliper body surrounding the valve? Will seals in the caliper be melt/damaged? Thanks.

Be carful they can snap off then your stuck on getting a new caliper. Heat might work just go back and forth a little at a time and it might come out.

I usually use a torch to heat up the bleeders before i attempt to break them loose,it avoids stripping them and having to use vise grips afterwards ...
No damage will happen to the seals as you are only heating one small area ! Cheers! Phil

I have used the wifes small kitchen torch that she uses for caramelizing sugar. It has a fine pointed flame that is perfect for small areas. Just make sure to get all the black brake dust off it before you put it back in the cupboard......
May i also recommend speed bleeders to anyone replacing these valves for any reason. Great little devices.

Hey, I thought we were going to do this together?
Since your are replacing it, why not just get the vice grip for more torque to break it loose. Like above said do a little at a time.

Are You Sure About Heat?
I've always been told not to use heat on brake calipers for fear of damaging rubber parts like caliper seals. I guess if you're very careful you might risk it.
Have you tried soaking the bleeder valves with Kroil or penetrating oil for a few days before trying the wrench again?

I planned on replacing brake lines and bleeder valves first, then we can do the fluid while having fun. I already tried the vice grip with no help. It only messed up the bleeder valve more. I already bought a set of longer sockets, hope it'll help. Thanks J big911fan, Have not tried that. Will do. Thanks.
