how to install operable front quarter glass/window

I used search and could not find but someone installed operable front quarter glass or what ever the front window is called.

I do not want to spend to make A/C acceptable and would like to install an operable front glass (in front of my front door glass)

Any help appreciated.

I would also like to know what parts are required from what years of car.

AC is marginal without spending big coin and it's too noisey having the windows down. I think the little opening front quarters would be great. Anyone got info ?

I believe, that only the '68 had the opening vent widows in the coupe. All targas have them, but they are incompatible with a coupe. If you have a coupe, you'll have to find a '68 door.

Nope.

Targas only thru about 74. My 73 had them.

As mentioned, 68 was the last year the coupe window frames had an operable vent window, but it is the only year that the frame was anodized aluminum. If you want to match the trim/frames of your 71, you will need to use a 68 only door frame--not easy to find.

You can use frames from earlier years but they are made from chromed brass. They will fit but the finish will not match the rest of the windows. They are easier to find (more were made) but are much heavier (if that's a concern) than the aluminum frame. It's really your call.

If you go "shopping" online, refer to the photo posted by Tidybuoy--that is a chrome/brass frame. You can easily identify it because of the long front leg extending down from the front of the vent window. Not only can you see where the chrome stops and the brass continues, but the length of the leg is a give away. Aluminum frames have a short front leg which extends only to about where the chrome plating in the photo stops. Keep this in mind when looking at small pictures that you come across in your search and you can quickly eliminate earlier frames.

Ossiblue is correct with the frame info. I had a 73T coupe years ago that I had installed the early chrome plated brass frames with the movable vent windows. The chrome was not in good shape but the frames were. We ended up lightly sandblasting them and all the rest of the AL mouldings on the car and painted them a satin black. Later 911's had that look anyhow. It looked great as the car was signal yellow. So that is an option if you cannot find good 68 frames.

I now have a 74 911 and did find a good set of 68 frames (not cheap) and are about to do the swap. The 74 does not have AC and I do remember from the 73 being able to open the vent windows was great. This time we will keep the polished AL look all around.

I have not checked if the frames are even available new-would doubt it. The glass and the rubber gasket are however.

Also the only difference I can see between the 68 frames and the later 69-on frames is the curved insert for the window (separate piece), the hole on the frame for the pivot and the support piece to lock the window closed (another separate piece). I suppose one could take a 69 and later frame and modify it (drill the pivot hole) and try to make or source the rest of the pieces. Might be doable.

I have a 71 that was C2'd in the 90's with SC doors that I'm bringing back to the 70's
