Throttle linkage issue.

Help.

Cruising along nicely in my stock 3.2 Carrera when suddenly it would not accelerate. Pumped the gas pedal and all it would do is idle. Idled along for a while feeling stupid.

Stopped and left it idling and took a look at the linkage...seemed okay. So I manually operated the throttle and viola...it worked. Did that a couple of times and then got in and used the foot pedal...and it also worked! Had no issue the rest of the way home.

Seems like it should be something slipping or not actuating the fuel injection throttle lever, but I can't find anything. Any ideas or suggestions?

its a pull linkage, all rods.
Remove the floor board and watch it while you push the pedal...
Then under the car at the tranny
Then up behind the engine...

Folllow it all the way...there are three bell cranks, and a cushion that can fail.

Yeah Rich, I thought it was all rod driven...that's why the slipping and then working again seemed so odd. So far, can't get it to replicate what happened.

Would you start at the gas pedal or at the engine end or under the cover on the back seat floor?

Thx.

Start from the Pedal, the Bell Housing then behind the Driver Side Manifold under the Heater motor and then at the Throttle Body.

Here is my write up: Sticky Throttle at Throttle Body, not bell housing bushing or pedal cluster???

I just ordered every bushing...I am at 2/3 throttle so once I replace all of it..I will get it back again.

As I was thinking about your specific issue...I was wondering if the TPS became unplugged, or had a loose connection, if that would demostrate your specific issue.....not sure.

The part I would suspect on yours would be one of the bell cranks or the cushion..
The cushion is under the rubber boot that is under the car right as the rods exit the tunnel...

Remove the boot from the tunnel, grab the rod on both sides of the cushion and push back and forth to see if the cushion has any play at all.
If it does, replace it.

Oh yeah the 3 Bushings in the Tunnel, notorious for breaking apart and jamming in there not to mention that annoying metal to metal rattle sound when you blip the throttle. try blipping the throttle when car is off, if you hear a metallic rattle your bushings are gone.

Located at the Shifter, Heater/E-brake and at the Coupler Access.

I have even placed a plastic sleeve on the linkage where the rod's close proximity to the trans cross member is (in between the trans mounts).

Would bad bushings or the TPS connection cause it to not actuate the throttle lever but still allow it to idle just fine?

There seemed to be no drag or funny feeling in the foot pedal at all...just no increased throttle response. I wish that I could make it happen again when someone is around who could push the foot pedal while I checked it out at the engine.
