I was installing the cat. to take it in for smog and noticed the drop link broke at the bottom. How hard to replace it?

Easy, two bolts, 19MM, 61 ft lbs, I would replace in paiirs

Leave the car on the ground, raising will pre-load them or raide the car and use a second jack to raise the trailing arm to the link, much more difficult and dangerous.

Sounds like some ramps would do the trick?

Yes, on the ground. If you are too large then ramps would help to gain better access but not really needed in my case.

Depending if your car is stock or upgraded to thicker sways, you may need a Long Philips to manuveur the drop link and maybe a wood clamps to keep the link in place.

To break the bolts/nuts loose use a cheater bar.
