Ethopian Assistant?

I have a new-to-me '85 euro 911 with ac. Yesterday I did my first bit of maintenance, changing the oil and air filter. No problems, but - here's my question - is there a trick to getting the forward-most bottom latch secured? I ended up unbolting an ac line and squeezing my arm past all of the crap to get to the latch, and I still have some pretty impressive bruises. What am I doing wrong?

I have since removed my ac, however, if I remember you get to it from over the top right. It is a tight area to work in.

My wife has skinny arms so she helps me with that sorta thing but don't get married for that reason, in the long run its cheaper to rent than it is to own. any skinny armed kids in the area?

How about a anorexic teenager? :-P

I modified my OEM Air Box Cover. Got rid of the Trombone and it is easy breezy to get to the latches.

The only other thing I can think of is to lower the engine couple of inches, but what big PITA

I can get it latched with my left hand without removing anything. I stand on the right side of the car and stick my left hand in beside the air box with my thumb pointed down. I can just reach the latch with my fingers. It's painful but it works.

I put a tie wrap around the pull part of the latch. easier to grip it.

My wife wasn't having any of it, and my 12 year old son, who thinks the car is his, couldn't quite grasp (sorry) the method of latching. Next time (10,000 miles or so?) I replace it I'll try the beside the car left hand idea. Thanks...

I am no Popeye but I have to get my arm wet with very soapy water. Once my arm is lubed up I can perform the operation. Just shove it in hard and snap the latch. I always figure it is how a protologist must feel doing his job.

Then I just use a damp cloth to wipe the soapy water off the engine parts.
