need help tracing these leaks... please

Hello I am completely stumped as to where my car is leaking from. I have a 79sc with the 3.0 liter engine and the 915 transmission. I started out this winter with doing a clutch replacement. All went well until about 100 miles after the clutch was put back together. I got a steady flow of gear oil dripping out of the car from between the motor and trans. It came down off of the shift fork/helper spring assembly. The harder I pushed the car the more it leaked when I got home. So about 2 weeks ago I pulled the motor again and replaced the input shaft seal on the trans, it was full of gear oil and oddly enough the clutch was completely dry. We pulled the fly wheel and the rear main was also dry. So we put the motor back in the car and at first it had a really good oil leak, with no gear oil on the floor. Than after about 2 days the gear oil showed back up and it is now the same or worse than before. I am thinking about getting some of the tracer dye and putting it in the car to better track the leaks but I was wondering if anyone had a similar experience and might be able to offer some advice.

Thanks

Did you lube the seal when you installed it?

I got nothing unless the shaft was worn where the lip of the seal sits. Did you take pictures?

there is an o-ring on the guide tube (the tube the throw out bearing slides on) which is easy to change. I think there are also 2 seals on the clutch fork (which straddles the TOB).

Arrow

On top of the transmission there is a vented bolt, if the vent hole is facing the wrong way it will spew out gear oil. You can reach a wrench up there without doing a drop.

so i got all excited thinking I wouldnt need to drop the engine and I reached up to the top of the trans and the hole is facing towards the front of the car. Would the o rings on the fork cause a large leak or just a drip. I drove the car this morning and when I got back it was kinda pouring down off the shift fork and helper spring.

Probably coming from the guide tube.
There's an O ring and a seal in it that could be the source of your leak.

O ring- part #999-701-359-40-M30 goes around the outside of guide tube (seals the guide tube to the case)
Seal- part # 999-113-327-40-M30 goes inside the guide tube (seals the guide tube to the input shaft) spring side of seal towards the trans.

thank you very much I will try that I was looking on all data and I definitly did not replace those parts so yes I think that will be my leak. Would these parts missing give just a drip of oil or a massive amount. I am hoping a massive amount because that is what I have. Thank you for all of your help

I had the same problem. It's the o-ring. It's a ***** to have to drop the engine again over a $2 o-ring.

Trust me I know.
