Need Help Installing Used Seats
I may have mistakenly posted my question in an old thread instead of starting a new one so here goes:
I just bought a fairly decent condition power seats to install in my project and need help sorting out the connections. There are several wires I am trying to identify and would appreciate some help. I've numbered them in the pic to make it easy. Please note that there are some cut wires (#1) and I don't know if I am missing a part that plugs in to #2. Nos 3 & 4 are just cut wires that I assume would have something to do with the power leads. Then there's #5 in the foreground with a connector. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Some direction on how I should proceed in testing and setting them up for installation would be great. ![]() ![]() |

If I may suggest, put a 12v source to the wires and see what they do then wire them accordingly to fuse #2 of the 1st fuse block. That is how my 3.2 is set up.
I believe there are two set of wires that power the front and rear motors of the seat, those need to be spliced together then connect to the power source from your fuse #2. I used insulated spades. Make sure it is well insulated or when it touche metal, it will blow the fuse and kill your A/C as well. #5, I think is the seat belt warning connector

Good thanks! That should explain the two open wires (#s 3 & 4) in the pic..... power source for the two motors. I'll try that for starters. I still would like to know what the cut wires are on #1 in the pic. I'm attaching a better close up pic. Also, is there something missing on #2?
Thanks again! ![]() |

Actually #1 & #3, as I recall belong together.
#2 & #4 are not recognized. #5 definitely seat belt connector. But I default to 12v source to figure it out. Does these seats have heated feature? That would be awesome if so.

Followed your suggestion to connect to 12V source and got it working. 3 & 4 are power feeds to the seat height motors, front and back, I spliced them together and connected them to a spare battery.
# 2 looks like a male plug of some sort with # 1 as the cut wires coming out of it. I took it out and apparently is a Mercedes Benz part # 009 545 53 28 which on line research just identifies it as a: MERCEDES-BENZ, CABLE CONNECTOR ELECTRICAL PLUG-IN JUMPER FOR SLIDING ROOF MOTOR KUPPLUNG. It obviously was being used by Porsche as a connector/coupling. But to what. The cut wires (#1) are red and brown which obviously are power related. There must be a matching female plug that was taken out as I do not see any other wiring connections to it. Just curious as to what I might be missing. I don't see any other connection that would lead me to a heating element... unfortunately. But I confirmed that # 5 as you say is a seat belt connector. |

I think someone hacked the plug off. #1 and #2 are the same thing, pretty sure. You can slide that black unit towards the middle of the seat and it should pop out. The other side would have been in the car. In fact, #3 and #4 should have connected to #1 where they are cut.
Were these in someone else's project first? I have the same seats in my SC. You might have to cut a few 1/8" aluminum spacers to get the seats to sit flat on the rails. There is a part of the seat motor that will interfere.

Here's some photos when I did this project a few years back.

VaSteve: Yes, I think it's safe to assume that the #1 wires are power related due to their color (red & brown) but I don't think they connect directly to 3 & 4 as they are smaller gauge wires. The connector is the same as yours except mine has only four pins which basically is the same since yours are wired to only four. Do you know where the pins eventually connect to? Maybe I'm beating myself unnecessarily on this one item but I can't help wondering what was it used for plus the thought that I may be missing on a feature of the seats.
I don't know much about their history, just got them from a consolidator that exports Porsche bodies to Germany. I'll keep in mind the spacers when I finally put them in. Thanks! |

Indeed we share some connectors manufactured by our distant cousins MBZ.
No worries about the other wires, just make certain there is no voltage when you hook up the the others. terminate and cap off to be safe. You don't need to be electrocuted unless you want to ![]()

Maybe I don't understand your question. Brown is ground and one of the reds controls the seat motor and the other the backrest. I bet if you apply power to your 1 and 2, nothing happens because its hanging there. 3 and 4 are for your seat motors. It looks as if your photo shows some shrinkwrap tubing. I think they were in a different car for a while. Mine came straight out of a 993.

Actually #s 3 & 4 are red & brown power leads to motors that raise and lowers the seat bottoms front and back. The seat back I believe is controlled by a manual lever on the right side. Definitely nothing on 1 & 2 as it's one unit with cut wires that's why I just took it out. I am just curious on what it was used for and see if I can in turn reconnect it and use it for what it was originally intended for.

See my photo. 3 and 4 used to be connected to 1 and 2....someone cut it. That's a standard plug....the other part would have been left in the car it came from. When I got mine, they came straight out of the car and I cut the plug off myself.
