Do you think this is a real IROC RSR?

I was at Beaverun in Western PA this morning. This weekends races are part of the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix that runs next weekend on one of the few all public street courses left in the U.S. The street course is limited to older, small displacement cars, so they run a bunch of classes this weekend out at the track. Porsche is the marque for this year's festivities.

Anyhow, while cruising up I stumbled onto this car. Sorry, I didn't take more pictures. I only had my phone with me. The car is completely street legal - inspection sticker and license plate with registration.

Assuming it's real, it's really rare and an interesting piece of Porsche lure.

That looks like the real deal. Note the wheel flare shapes front and rear.

I wish you had taken some pictures of the interior.

That's great! Man, that takes me back. I was at the IROC race at Riverside and watched all those guys bang on each other through turns 7 and 7a. Great fun. How cool it would be to actually own one of those cars!

There is a good chance it will be at next Saturday's car show in the city. I will take my camera in hopes of finding him and getting a few more shots.

Yes, it is the real deal. It is owned by the gentleman that owns Sewickley Porsche, Audi and BMW and he has owned the car for years. In fact, we saw it at the dealership over the July 4 weekend. Awesome car and nice guy.

Street driven with a 2.8 for quite a long time. Dunno if they ever sourced a 3 liter for it
one of the most original condition ones out there

I just spent my Saturday morning cleaning a 1974 RSR which will be in Pittsburgh next weekend. Sell everything you own and buy the car.

A friend of mine owned the yellow car. He sold it to a famous Porsche collecting comedian.

It's real. I spoke at length to the owner at the Shadyside car show 2 years ago. He's a great guy and more than willing to show it off. He saw me rubber necking to look at it, spoke with me for a while and then took me behind the ropes, opened the hood and even let me set in it. I was thrilled. My wife made fun of how I looked and acted like a little kid the entire time.

The cars stayed the same color but the drivers drew the cars out of a hat for each weekend to even out any possible performance differences between the identical cars. Some drivers had preferred cars that they thought had a better feel through the turns.

When the cars were crashed and repaired, I am sure no one would choose that one.

I am not sure if the suspension settings were up to the driver?

Here's one I assume is real from the gathering of Donohue cars at last year's Brian Redmund's vintage event at Road America.

When I was a kid tagging along with my parents to PCA track events, there was a guy from NJ who used to show up with a real IROC RSR. I watched it a bunch of times at Lime Rock, Pocono, and Watkins Glen in the late '70s or so. Even got a ride around the paddock once at Pocono. Pretty cool!

Drivers could only change seats. `everything else was under locak and key. `when a car was crashed - it was taken out of rotation. Basically the banners of the drivers name were taken off one and reapplied to another
