Undo the bolt holding it in underneath, remove box. then open from inside.

Slide a thin piece of metal like a flexy ruler or a credit card into the gap and slip the lock.....

I had the same problem with my '74. I could not remove the bolt holding the box in place by working from underneath. The bolt will not back out far enough to release the bracket.

What I had done is install the lock with its latch on the wrong side - it should have been flipped 180 degrees. You might have done the same thing when you reinstalled the lock.

In the end I cut the strap that holds the glovebox in place. The box comes right out, you can reach the lock, remove it, and turn it right for left where it will work.

Sadly, you will then have to repair the strap. I just pop riveted a small piece of strap material to the strap. Works fine.

Yeah, you may have over torqued the nut too, causing it to bind. Remove the rubber cover on the knob and put a vise grip and turn it. be gentle though.

Undoing the knee pad or credit card thing is also a good idea.

Remember our cars do not need much torque on fasteners. Snug & 1/4 turn or always default to PAG spec.
