You do nice work Thor !! What direction carb wise are you going to go with ? I'd like to do that eventually (PMO ??) with the SC, but it's going to take a lot of money & time to get it track ready first ! I like your exhaust too!

Friday, spent the day at my friend's putting the new oil cooler on the 2.2 '70E engine (small leak found on the old one after the engine rebuild.). Hopefully ready this week --> Mid-Ohio next week !!!

Nuthin' like a clean engine !

Way to go Thor! It looks great! Are you adding cams or was this just meant to be a repair and clean job? Either way, it looks great and you have been truly indoctrinated:)

rexav8r 09-26-2011 07:13 PM

Hey Brian ! What have you been up to ?? I see a PCA treasurer now.....

ipapilot 09-26-2011 07:19 PM

I've been the Treasurer now for 7 years brother, lookin' forward to hanging up that hat next year sometime if they'll let me:)
I've been well, just chasing the family around as the kids grow older and get more active in sports. Very little track time for me, unfortunately. I don't think I knew you had an SC as well, but it's been a long time...

Good eye James! I've found a new hobby for now.

Thanks Rich and Brian. No carb$ and no cam$ for now. Just want to get it back together and learn to drive it.

Thor,
Nice work. Taking all that time to get it clean, really pays off while you're working on it......and when you are done...it's a thing of beauty.

Progress report

Progress has been slow with life going on but with stormy weather outside I was able to spend the last couple days in the garage. Got the cams timed and valves set today. Picked up the rebuilt starter and alternator and the tins from the powder coater. No rush now that winter is setting in but things should progress rapidly now.

That's a nice piece of work --- of art! Congrats on the outcome. It's clear that you spent lots of time and hard work on it.

I see that you mount the engine directly to the engine stand. Is that the Harbor Freight stand? Or Ebay?

BTW --- "Brown747" --- I would guess that you fly UPS 747 cargo planes?

Harbor Freight stand and the top engine studs fit directly into the stand mounting plate. Because of the protruding lower studs it will not rotate beyond about 30 degrees either way from horizontal. As it is just supported only by the top 2 studs I would not want to turn it much beyond 30 deg. I will mount the exhaust then lower it to my ATV jack to finish up mounting the flywheel and clutch as there is not room with this stand setup. Next time I will spring for the correct mounting flange. I would also like the stability of a stand that has 2 "feet" as this single in the middle T design is getting less stable as the weight from accessories adds up.

Yes, I fly the Whale for UPS.

Thor,
I have the adapter for the engine stand. You are welcome to borrow it and my stand, if you'd like, for the duration of your rebuild.

Al

Back together!

Just wrapping up my lower stud change and cleanup project. Deleted A/C, cruise control, smog pump and associated plumbing, backdated heat, installed later style cam chain idlers, powdercoated tins, added SSI's and Monty. Next up , replace clutch cable and tunnel fuel lines before re installing. On track for a spring return to the road. Thanks to all that offered help and advice during this project.
