I used the craftsman version of that tool to split the nuts on mine. I didn't try to split the barrel nuts though. Lots of pb blaster (for a couple of days) helped to separate the nuts from the studs. Of course, I had my engine out and on a stand when I did it, so it was fairly painless.

I bought all new hardware (and extra studs as well), but i thought this might work out a little better than trying to torque the nuts off - basically reducing any risk of pulling/snapping a stud.

I think I'm keeping the CIS look for now - if i find a junk airbox online for cheap i might do the clean look, but with the value of CIS parts today, I would like to sell as much of it as possible to help recover the cost of the EFI kit. Trond(or anyone for that matter), do you happen to know(or have a list) of the CIS components that no longer need to be in the car? I'd like to remove as many as possible.

I have the large diameter intake and clean cut airbox directly from the Tbitz kit available to sell. $250+ shipping. It even has new rubber on the intake-to-airbox connection. Includes the throttle body. I can take a few pics if you'd like. I changed to a 3.2 intake.

PM me if interested.

If i had the time i'd definitely drop the engine. but doing it under the car will be much more of a challenge for those nuts - i may try to split the barrels to see if its possible, but if not i do have 6 extra studs and and oxy-acetaline torch.

I wish you well. I did mine from underneath the car without incident. Using heat, all of the studs stayed useable. My 911 was 25 years old back then.

Search the archives, there might be more detail of how to do it. That is where I got the info. I would not use those single can torches that explode. My mapp had an oxy cylinder and a mapp gas cylinder with a long hose and torchpiece. I think the acetylene will be prefect.

old exhaust off, SSI's and M&K 50% on. just started thismorning. took a sawzall to all the old exhaust to give enough room to get in there - helped a ton. oil lines came off with no issues due to a liberal use of Liquid Wrench, and i had started soaking the exhaust stud nuts the night before with the stuff. sprayin once an hour for about 4 hours yesterday, and then again today when we went to town to get a couple of tools. New oil lines on, Drivers side heat exchanger on, passenger one going on in about 15 min,

All studs stayed usable. i did the liquid wrench soaking, then applied heat w/ a MAPP gas torch (no oxy-acetaline available on a saturday or sunday here) didn't get red hot but did help. a couple of heating/cooling cycles with more Liquid Wrench in between, and application of a constant pressure(No jerking) twisted the nuts clean off, no problems.

SSI's and M&K went on flawlessly! Putting in oil tomorrow morning, also need to make my 02 sensor wires longer - should be starting her up about 10 am tomorrow!

Pics! (only 3, but there's plenty of threads on the subject.)

OLD: basically went to town w/ a sawzall to make it easier to access the nuts.

New: purdy, aint they?

installed!: oil fill up today, longer O2 sensor wires, then first drive!

Fuel Accumulator

Great Reading!

Is there still a need for the Fuel Accumulator with this Bitz setup?

I'm not 100% sure if it is required, but I am fairly certain I didn't touch mine during the install.

More on the M&K/SSI set up. Trust me, i enjoy a loud, screamin' car, but this thing may be pushing the lI'mit!!! sounds absolutely AMAZING when she gets opened up - definitely like a Porsche should sound, my only issue right now is a quite terrible drone from about 2100-2800 rpm. if i drive around that range its not so bad- - in fact almost ZERO droning (and I'm usually at least 2900(~65mph in 5th)) but acceleration through those 700rpms is slightly unbearable. I'll figure out something. (also open to suggestions ;) )

JmuRiz 10-18-2011 05:16 AM

Contact M&K I think they have some updates/ideas on how to lessen or eliminate the drone.

I ditched the accumulator when I switched to EFI

I will remove mine also. What purpose is it for if the EFI is always pressurized ?

I Have to install a fuel pressure gauge tomorrow and get the fuel pressure up to 36psi like Tony says in the manual. Have the rebuild with a clean look, a 964 cam and SSI's

I's using Auto Tune and will spring later for the wide band oxy sensor, Just want to get it from running rough right now.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1318980368.jpg

drmatera 10-19-2011 10:56 AM

you can't use auto tune without a wide band as it tunes based on a preset afr table

BTW, looks clean

Milo2361 10-19-2011 03:37 PM

contacted ben, hopefully getting a couple of tail pipe baffles in soon to see if it deadens the drone a bit. i sure would hate to have to cap off an outlet! :(

Thanks Dr.

I put on the fuel pressure gauge tonignt and dialed it in to 36lbs. Will take Dr.'s advice and order the wide band oxy sensor so I can use Autotune. Hopefully, tuning will be straightforward.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1319067722.jpg

I'm about to order a wideband. I talked to a dyno shop who knows some people in the megasquirt community around here. one has agreed to help me out and tune over a steak dinner. He said he's never done a 911 but know the Megasquirt program in and out. i just need to order the wideband before he can help me out.

I'd love to learn the whole megasquirt system and how to tune it and all, but my career path and current time available allows for very minimal time to study the ins and outs of it.

by the way - gorgeous trunk and engine compartment!!! so clean! i'll be fully backdating my heat this weekend to clear up the engine bay(though i have kept the CIS looks for now)

My favorite cure for unnecessary tailgaters: turn on the wiper washers (when at freeway speed). It blows over your car and on to theirs. It's amazing when you see the car start backing off and their wipers go on. The best part is that they don't know you did it on purpose.

Excellet results on all types of cars. The guy wit the dirty windshield now has a speared windshield. The lady in the new & spotless mercedes hates getting her car wet. Really makes you feel good inside :)

Wow! That is hella cheap! Tuning takes awhile to do.

Well done! VERY NICE and neat install

So, overall, you are very happy with the BITZ kit and how it performs?

With the Auto-Tune, what AFR does it aim for?

Is this AFR target adjustable throughout the rev range and under any load?

I ask because I'm thinking of using this BITZ kit for a turbo conversion on the 3.0 SC motor ;)

drmatera 11-17-2011 10:35 AM

Yes the AFR table is completely user adjustable but to tell you the truth it's pretty good to start with. The numbers may not make sense to the novice but there is a method to the madness.

You will love VE Analyze aka: autotune
