I got a good deal on these and because they are the proper offset no spacers were required. But when I bought them they were the OEM silver and just didn't look right. So I went to the local FLAPS and purchased a few rattle cans of a color called anthracite. Basically the color of the lead in a pencil. That really made them look good.........at least to me .

The transaction with Milt was a very interesting process. We never spoke on the phone but after the first volley of emails I knew I was dealing with a class act. When he told me the reason for the sale I knew it was my time to purchase. The thought of haggling over price never entered my mind as he was selling for such a great cause. In a very small way I was helping another human that needed help so it's all good. Milt and I became friends without ever seeing or speaking to each other. If a unique nice looking car is the end result that will just be an added bonus. Thanks to all that have chimed in I value all opinions. And I will continue to update until completed.

Today I really started the install. Installed some screws and marked where a little bit of grinding was needed to make it fit my car. Tonight I'll run to big box store to get more screws/washers and will get it fully installed tomorrow. I'll post a pic of it installed tomorrow. If it wasn't so damn hot here I could work longer

Today I installed the front bumper using all the screws/bolts needed to get it done. All holes lined up well and it was pretty easy. I had to adjust the hood latch a little bit but no big deal. Went to mount the light housings and they hit the braces under the headlight buckets so I'll have to do a little cutting when I remove the bumper. Now just have to do some sanding and she'll be ready for primer/paint. Now on to the rear bumper . Here are a few pics from today, actually doesn't look too bad in black.

Hmmmm, the light housings I used (Chinese crap, not from Pelican) didn't hit the braces. I did, however, have to remove Carrera windshield washer reservoir and the horns (moved them).

For whatever reason the light housings hit on both sides. I had previously changed to puck style horns so no issue there. And I have removed the washer tank and will use something else. Tomorrow I hope to start on the rear.

a trivial point , but you might consider changing the headlight trim rings to match the body color ,or paint em black.

Yep that's part of the transformation. I will have painted trim rings to match the car.

I'd definitely paint the bumpers the same color as the car. And I'd also leave the trim rings chrome. I think it adds to the "older look" but thats just me.

Or on second thought, I'd scrap the whole project and send me the bumpers. My car is black already and they'd look much better on mine!!!

Interesting comments regarding the chrome headlight rings. I've been wondering should I leave them chrome or go with body color ? I'm also not quite sure what to do with the horn grill " slats " which are currently aluminum color. If I leave them the aluminum color they tie in better with the chrome headlight rings. Or I can black them out which would probably look better with body color light rings. All the other window trim on the car is satin black from the factory. Which way would you guys go ?

You are installing something which is Retro design influenced.

Chrome is Retro.

But, I can assure you that it was no "half asssed" attempt. I've been making customizations on and off for 45 years. I'm no Gemballa that's for sure. And not everyone likes that stuff either. In fact, if I did, I wouldn't have taken 6 months to build mine.

But, if anyone cares to know, I saw a blue short hood car here on Pelican with RUF wheels and 964 bumpers along about 2004. The body was on a dolly and the bumpers and wheels were just placed to show the concept, not even bolted. I vowed to make a car like that right then and there. It took me 5 years to get around to it and now Richard is the one with the "vision."

Never did get the RUF's. Well, there's time for that I guess.

I have to add a special appreciation to Richard. He paid my asking price which was on the high side given what you can buy from GT Racing, et al. The money was raised to care for my very elderly MIL.

Thanks again, friend.
Good on you both.

I've liked looking at pictures of your work Milt for years , and rather like the look of both front and rear.

I've thought about putting the stock fenders (911) back on Mr. Potatohead and removing the steel slat nose , maybe some day when money is right. Been looking for a lower valance with lights like the 935's ran for now , not sure if I can afford you but should have you build me one.

rfuerst911sc ,looking forward to pics of painted bumpers !

I think the final look will be sharp.

If the slats are removable maybe a black mesh in there would be cool. Just a thought.

There's a black mesh behind the slats. I used the slats to add retro to the design, but it looks just fine w/o them. Just a little less retro and more into the newer Turbo look. They are captured in the opening, but could easily be eliminated. Or removed for plating and reinstalled.

At first I did not have horn grilles in mind whatsoever. I wasn't even sure about the oil cooler opening, but I did them anyway.

There is also wire mesh for the large opening, but I shipped it removed. rfuerst can put any number of things in there to change the look.

Today I removed the stock bumper/valence wow what a pig compared to Milt's glass bumper. Had to do some grinding to make the exhaust cutouts and to clear the end of the muffler can. Took about 2 hours fussing around to get it right. Once again all the mounting holes lined up well Milt you do good work . I'm going to adjust/bend the OEM side lower valence supports to use with the glass bumper. I think the additional support will be good. And I'm going to line the inside of the bumper with heat reflective material. Getting closer and I appreciate all feedback/comments. In regards to the front cooler opening I had originally planned on mounting an oil cooler but there is no room at all behind the valence and the tub. But the air flow I'm sure will help my oil cooler in the passenger fender. I will use the black mesh screen that Milt supplied to cover the opening. Now I need to find a ducktail to complete my retro look.

Took another step forward today by purchasing a fiberglass ducktail spoiler locally. Will try to get it installed this weekend and see how she fits. Just came off a car so should be close.

Paint the slats and headlight rings to match the new color of your wheels!

Maybe trade me your chrome rings for my 73 in exchange for my black?
