A/C console switch Installation
Is there some sort of trick to reinstalling the A/C switches into the console that does not require you to disassemble the floor boards to pull all the excess slack out of the wires and capillary tube in order to get the switches back in to the small console box? I removed the trim and knobs off of my switches to do some diagnosis on my temp switch and now need to get them back in to the console. It seems like to only way to do that is undo everything behind the console so I can get enough cable slack to get the switch completely out of the console so I can install the trim and replace the slotted nuts and knobs. That seesm like a major PITA. I see no easy way to get the switch trim box over the switches and inside the console recess at the same time. Suggestions?

You have to remove the back cover of the console to access the screws that hold the center console's "Rubics Cube" (the 3 piece fascia which holds the AC controls, 4 way flasher, mirror heater and door button controls) in place.
To remove the carpets and take one 10 mm hex head nut off the floor board plate is not a chore. You typically do not have to pull a lot of slack on the cable harnesses or thermostat's sensor tube to get things back in place. The design is old and not perfect and remember, these are "hand built" cars. |

If I may add, push the face down and then out. It try to pry it back, you may snap the two little tabs on top.
+1 there is not much slack so take care not to pull the connectors off with out referencing them
