Replace my O2 sensor

Hi All

I'm trying to replace my O2 sensor- I read a post that recommends taking the heat shield off to access the sensor. How do I remove the bolts that are holding the shield? When I try to loosen the bolt it just spins- is the some type of fastener on the other end? I've tried to attach a image to what I'm speaking of.

Sorry for such a simple question...

Thanks

Carl

It looks like the heat shield has already been removed and you can see the exposed brackets with the bolt holes. Not sure what you are pointing too but I believe that protector piece just snaps on to the O2 sensor with the C-clip. Not sure what bolt you need to remove?

Did this picture come from the post you read? Are you speaking about a shield that is not in the picture because it was already removed?

Those bolts are held in place by the rectangular clips you see. If they were not installed properly I could see them spinning.

Give us a little more data.

The picture was from a posting, not mine. I think Bob is best describing what is happening. Can I just shear the top of the bolt off & replace? 2 of the clips have already been replace with bolt & nuts.

Thanks

Carl

Heck yes, just cut them off. It's not like they are head bolts.

PDF page 95 in the parts catalog shows the cat for an 89. It looks a little different as to the shielding from your picture but you can search around and see if you can find the right clips and bolts and order from Pelican.

Thanks Bob-

Didn't think about cutting them until after I posted...kind of a forehead slapping moment.

Thanks again

Carl

You can buy auto fastener hardware at Lowe's or Home Depot as well to expedite the job.

When using the Dremel tool, do not force the grinding tool into the material to cut faster. The motors cook pretty quick under that kind of load.

Safety glasses - cut off wheels shatter with any side load - take your time.
