Choosing appropriate distributor for RS spec engine

Hello,
I am building a 2.7 RS spec engine and need a distributor.
The engine is built on a 7R case with genuine RS heads and piston/cylinders. It will be fed by an entire MFI system from a 2.2S (including pump).

I have the possibility to buy a 001 or a 008 distrbutor. What is the difference between the 2 and which one should I take?

Thanks
Mathieu

The 12 point single is pricey. I've thought that the belt driven 3.6 belt dual dizzy would work. Lots cheaper.

Rs dizzy

Talk to Aaron Burnham over on the engine building forum. He builds distributors and rebuilt mine for my 2.7 rs spec motor.
World of difference!
His avatar is burn bros I think

JB racing has a single plug, six pin, fully adjustable distributor with a magnetic pick up. I bought mine through Steve at Rennsport. Hooks up directly to the MSD, no points either.
Very clean unit.

That's it. Here's what it looks like in the car.
It's just a distributor, but the thing is made of billet aluminum, feels like a machine and is fully adjustable for whatever advance you want.

Twin plugs are nice, but not necessary if running RS P/C and compression ratio (8.5:1). Therefore an early 911S distributor(67-69) or equivalent is a good start.

BTW, what's the 001 and 008?

Thanks everyone, I have more info on the 2 distributors:
First a 0231 184 001 which seems to have been used on 2.7s from 74 to 77
The other is a 269 008 which was used on late 73' T models.

If anyone knows the curve advance for these 2 distributors that would be very helpful!
Thanks

I don't have the advance charts to insert (they're in the archives), but while they'll both work, they also provide more centrifugal advance than the distributors I suggest. However, any of them can be modified given the correct methods and measuring instruments to replicate the RS spec.

Ron,
Thanks for the chart. Just to be clear, the 231 159 002 distributor shown (2 liter S engines) provides approx. 22º of centrifugal advance (RM page L-39), about the same advance as the 2.7l Carrera distributor (RM page 9.3 - 2/6).

Later T, E and S spec distributors produce approx. 30-34º of centrifugal advance (page 9.3 - 2/1)

Either of the above specs don't include the recommended static timing settings before or after TDC. (Note: ATDC static timing affects total timing advance when measuring BTDC).

Also be aware that the factory charts present distributor timing specs either in crankshaft rotation degrees or distributor rotation degrees (1/2 crank speed); potentially confusing to read and compare the various timing charts.
