Re-attach "Carrera" script on Engine Hood
My plastic script broke, but my brother sent me the plastic script off his 87 Carrera, since a new one was attached to his engine hood after it was repaired. Here's the issue: These come with 2-sided tape that has a thin layer of foam. The plastic emblem has a shallow indentation in which the tape sits. The tape is removed from the sign my brother sent me, so I bought some 3M glue specifically meant for glueing plastic emblems and mouldings to cars. But, I'm concerned about damaging the paint, and am not sure I'll get a good bond because of the shallow indentation.
So I'm thinking of buying a new script from Pelican which has the 2-sided tape, even though my understanding is that it'll be slightly different because you can only get the script from 1990 on. Any suggestions regarding attaching the old script to the engine hood? Thanks.

You can get the 2-sided 3M tape at any autopart store. Pull off one side of tape and stick to emblem. Use x-acto knife to cut excess from around letters. Use wax remover or rubbing alcohol to clean area where emblem sticks on. Pull off other side of tape and install.

A bodyshop must be able to advice you on this. I'm sorry I can't be of any help myself. I just bought a new script when I needed one (luckily the exact same as the original).

The factory script has bits of adhesive "missing" (I'm told) so water can drain out. You might want to incorporate this feature if you glue yours on.

clean the area of wax and take a new tube of clear silicon and
put small drops on the back, not big drops just enough so they only spread a small amount, then tape it in place overnight. the next day genlty lift the tape and your done. keith |
