I'm going to change my oil tomorrow - thinking of adding Seafoam today
I'm wondering what the experts think....
I'm going to change my oil either tomorrow or Friday and so I was thinking of adding a can of Seafoam to the oil today - as a general engine cleaner. I've heard of people adding Seafoam to the oil but I hve never done this myself. Are there any benefits to doing this? Thanks.......Vern |

I generally add Seafoam to gas to clean the injectors. I don't know about to the oil. Lots of us "old timers" grew up adding a quart of ATF to the oil for a couple days before an oil change. Very high detergent. I don't know how this would go over with our Porsche people.

I would only do this if I had a problem I was trying to fix. Maybe a stuck ring or clogged cam spraybar. If your car has had regular oil changes and has no issues, I wouldn't do it. Best case is nothing bad happens, worst case is some sludge comes off and clogs a bearing, spraybar, piston squirter, pressure relief valve, etc.

I wouldn't, either.

Don't do it.
I dig SeaFoam but only as a fuel additive. If I had a car with issues I may try the vacuum hose route but not in a good running engine.

Got it. I won't do it. My car is in good shape and just needs and oil change. It was only a thought.

I still add the AFT to some of my vehicles, but not my Porsche. It's unbelievable how clean the engine it is upon diassembly.

I've put it in the oil of a 3.2 that wasn't running well. Cleaned out the mosquitoes from the whole neighborhood.
Didn't solve the problem, replacing the speed/reference sensors did, but didn't seem to hurt the engine, and that was a lot of miles ago. Does wonders for snow blowers, lawn mowers, etc. Like other have said, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I wouldn't put it in unless I was having a problem. Just my .02 |

Put it the gas and run it for a couple of days.....it'll end up in your oil anyways.

I used to run a can of B-12 Chemtool through my oil for about 100 miles before an oil change in many of my old cars, just to clean up the crankcase. It never hurt anything.

Seafoam washes down everything past the rings and your oil ends with all the crap it breaks loose. It's recommended that after you do a treatment that you change the oil....
