I got a noise...

...when the clutch is out, in neutral. When I push in the clutch the noise goes away. I can't feel anything, just hear it. It's not a constant noise, it has a rhythym to it. Kind of a thumpa, thumpa, thumpa type thing.

'74 2.7, Webers.

I'm thinking it's throwout bearing but I don't really know for sure.

It's been 10 years & 20,000 miles since the clutch was changed (paperwork from PO) and at that time a rebuilt trans was put in as well. I've put about 8,000 miles on the car in the last 15 months.....car seems to shift well, no grinding or anything. I can't tell if it makes the same noise in gear while driving, too much other noise.

Thoughts?

Is the clutch the rubber centered version? If so, the rubber may be coming apart.

If not, I would consider the TOB.

Post a audio clip.

I replaced my T/O bearing and Guide Tube ( also the pilot bearing ) and it really quietened my clutch. I had a gritty feel issue, it is all good now.
