Backdating an SC engine to RS/RSR?
I know that there are many unique items that make an RS/RSR 3.0 liter engine very special, but can a 3.0 (or even a 3.2 for that matter) be effectively backdated to provide a similar engine experience?
Any thoughts? Thanks. Lawrence |

Ive wondered about this too. Rods and valvetrain that can spin 8000rpm, 10.5:1 pistons and agressive cams. Twin plug... Would a 3.0/3.2 need head work to help it get over 300hp? Would you need to upgrade the crank?

Ye$, it can be done. While original RSR parts are rarer than hen's teeth and frightfully expensive, readily available modern day equivalents are merely frightfully expensive. Eurometrix has high butterflies, Rothsport has slide valves - pick your poi$on. Henry at Supertec can build a suitable RSR pump. Mahle P&C's show up every now and again (but must be matched to special RSR heads for proper compression), but JE or Cosworth pistons in either L&N Nickies or Mahle barrels will work with stock SC heads in a pinch. Get those SC heads ported to more modern port shapes and sizes, install readily available valves, springs, and keepers, and they are probably better than originals. Carrillo rods (maybe Pauter, but some are leery of them). Reworked SC crank, good rod bolts, GT3 oil pump, light flywheel, and some other little details, and you're there.
Hell, that would be better than an original RSR. The "personality" comes from the MFI and free-reving internals, all of which have better, more modern equivalents available. Just a matter of money.
