KEP PP Decesion Help Please

Greetings:

I did finalize getting a stage 1 pkge. Includes Alum. PP, KEP Organic Disc, & TO BEARING..

My car 82sc 915- w 3.3Turbo-with goodies...I have done multiple runs 60-130mph- against some fast cars- vettes,-recently 2011-335i bmw tuned,-old school cars..Happy to say i always a bit faster.. I would say my car has close to 400whp pending on weather and weighs 2600-2700lbs.

Now having 2nd thoughts--Should I have gone with stage 2 -PP HOLDS 477LBS TORGUE--Overkill or stage 1--PP HOLDS 417LBS TORQUE..

Kep-Monty said i should be ok--and stage 2 will be quite a difference in pedal feel..(meaning not good)

Car-weekend car--80%hwy 20% city...driving

Walt

KEP makes a good product and have tons of experience. A stiff clutch is a real PITA in traffic.

BUT....a modified engine and a weaker clutch spells slippage. Nothing more frustrating than putting the pedal down and no hook up.

Better safe than pissenmoaning about having to pull the drivetrain to replace the clutch after a hard launch or boost ......

No drags--1st and 2nd gear would be shot in an instant...

For example--Just doing side by side 40-130mph (4times) against 2011 335i turbo-bmw tuned..His nose goes up..when he got the jump..With the tune he is putting 360lbs-380lbs tq.(paddle shift)..Me-once boost comes in-3rd gear-2600rpms.. I easily pull on him with a passenger...He was solo...

Talk to KEP about slippage with that turbo motor. I have a stage one but with stock motor at 220 HP but car weighs like 2250 lbs and my car sees mostly track duty which is harder on the clutch more than any street blasts will offer.

Wow, this car sounds like a hoot to drive, have any pics. Want to race my Saab from third gear.
If the clutch works fine now, use it and abuse it, then replace.

CLutch is going in 4th gear..already---Rpms jumped when I HIT 4500rpms...When I downshifted from 5th....at 60mph...Weather is everything--Once 35-40 degrees, the car goes to another level.

True--You have alot more ft.lbs hold with a stage 1 930-setup than a 915-stage 1..

i have a stage 2 in my 78 930 weighing slightly less than 2400 pounds with a modified ls7 engine.. all KEP parts and the engine makes 700 chp and over 600 ft/lbs torque. i do not do drag racer starts but the setup has held up well and i have not detected any slippage other than that of the 335/35/17s under hard acceleration. highly recommend the KEP parts.......missed the 915 comment. you should have switched over to a 930 gearbox in my opinion... the larger clutch 240mm i believe will hold much more power as will the 930 gearbox ..especially if street or drag racing. the KEP 2 pressure plate with their organic racing disc will hold in excess of 600 ft/lbs torque.

Sorry for not doing the research, but is this KEP a 'centrifugul weight' design, ala Centerforce?

I put one of the Centerforce clutches in my stroker motor jeep when I was having a problem with it spinning the stock clutch. I've been VERY happy with this design, as the pedal effort is very light, yet it doesn't slip at all. The wheels/tires weigh a hefty 120+ pounds EACH, so they are a bear to get spinning off the line. Despite the weight, the stroked I-6 (4.6L) pulls like a freight train, making this my 4WD hot rod...

With a high horsepower engine like you describe, I think it's a great combination of grip plus low pedal effort.

Hope this helps,
Chuck.H

The KEP stuff is not centrifugal like the Centerforce. It's plain and simple clutch strength.

The 915 clutch is a nice piece. I have a stage 1 in my racecar. Thing is light as a feather compared to a stock clutch.

I agree with the comment on the 930 gearbox. Comparing internals side-by-side, the 930 is MUCH more robust than the 915. Porsche really beefed things up a notch when they made the 930 trans for the turbo engine. 930 shafts and gears are really hefty compared to the 915 pieces
