Pulled injectors
So i pulled my injectors today since i seem to be having issues @ start up, with it running rough and taking some time for all 6 to come on together. I pulled the plugs and the sleeves came out with 4 of 6. Looks like someone had them out before, was lots of permatex all around the sleeve. Any way doing the flow test took a long time for all injectors to start spraying, and allot of junk came out of them, but after about a gallon of flow they were all spraying well except the 2 middle cylinders. Lots of carbon deposits on them all below the sleeve.
The # on injectors is 0 437 502 004 with a 014 stamped in a box. Should i send these to someone in US to be cleaned, and one you all recommend? Next i will pull the WUR and see how the screen on it looks. Im not brave enough yet to pull the FD down and have a look at it. Adam

For a quickie test you can swap a "good" injector for one of the middle ones and see if they flow ok. Hopefully, the injectors are the only problems.
The sleeves, sleeve o-rings and the injector o-rings ought to be replaced. If the sleeves popped out like you say, someone has been messing with them and even if you get the injectors cleaned there will be issues with air being sucked in around these parts. The injector o-rings should be pretty supple, not wimpy supple, but flexible. O-rings on my 81 in 1997 were hard - barely flexible. I replaced them and just replaced the whole lot again two years ago - probably overkill but the cost is not prohibitive. To remove the sleeve you need to dremmel the little crimp indentation off and then punch in a crimp again to hold the sleeve in. Someone ought to have a slick way put the crimp back in. I used a center punch. |

You can clean the injectors yourself. Do a search. One way is to use fishing line to hold open the plunger at the tip while rinsing with cleaner.

Do the injectors for 2 and 5 have some thing in common on the FD why the two may be sluggish together?
For $.50 each the o-rings will be replaced. The sleeves were basically falling apart in my hands. As much as I dont want to drop the motor, it seems like there are allot of things that I may need to fix.... Is it normal to have carbon build up on the last 1/3 of the injector?

Carbon buildup is a result of not driving it hard enough... Get everything fixed and then give it a good ”Italian tune up”

I sent mine to this guy. He was great to work with, fast & friendly service. It was not running bad, but he did a before & after flow test & nice report. Rebuilt with all new orings and tip covers. They look like new. Cost $16 each! I haven't had a chance to see how they help yet, just getting the motor back in now.

+1 for Mr Injector. Fast service, $16 bucks each, they come back like new, with a before/after flow report.

I replaced mine with BMW metal injectors and took one of my old ones apart and found a very small mesh screen that will tend to clog up. Unfortunately all the cleaning will not get rid of hard non-disolvable materials/debris.
To do a thorough job you have to replace the screen. J

I didn't check my injectors when they came back from Mr Injector, but the web site says they replace the input screens.
