WARNING-Rarly8 Mods Cause Unusual Problems

A few months ago I had some modifications done to my 89 930 Cabriolet and have experienced an unusually puzzling problem. I had Brian Bodart install his recommended mods for my car that he said would transform the car. The mods included his equal length headers, a K27 turbo, his street muffler, and his adjustable WUR, which was dyno tuned by Lou Smith in Denver, NC. Well, it did transform the car into a much more drivable car with much less turbo lag and over 100 more hp. The problem with these mods is that my rear tires started out with good tread but since the "transformation" the tires have worn out in rapid fashion causing me to have to buy new tires. I don't get the connection. Can anyone tell me how these modifications can affect my tires? I am puzzled.

I'd ask Brian for some type of compensation. Prob the reason he sold his gorgeous red car. Though you'd have thought he had big enough tires on that SC to cure this phenom. Shame on Brian for bringing such issues to market. Possibly a switch to a G50 with a more aggressive 1st gear could cure this???

Hello Whitelightnin,

I am getting install a set of headers 1 5/8" from Brian Bodart (Rarly8)(Piece of art).
Since my car is not turbo, I expect the tyres to live longer than your setup.
I would be very happy to have the output power that you are getting and
to change tires as often as required.
Good for you, have fun.
PS I think that phenomena of tires going bald is called HP

Regards

89 930 has the G50 so that is not the solution.

If you removed the posi unit, you'd likely prolong the life of one of your tires. This would cut maintenance in half! Why I have never thought of this before escapes me.

Right, like 350+ hp is going to wear out rear tires on a Porsche 930. That is just silly talk. (I want them headers for my 81)

Seriously, It's a shame he kept this hidden from you. I'll bet you are not the first.

You are definitely sure it's the rear tires?

It is not the jackrabbit starts. It is the shift from first to second and the shift from 2nd to 3rd. I think Brian should provide a disclaimer for the phenomena before someone makes these modifications. One of the main problems with wearing out these tires is finding the correct tire. The only tire that I could find that provide the original tire size was Nexen, manufactured in S. Korea

Because you're running the crap out of it now. Why else would your tires wear?

Wear is proportional to use, in a basic sense. Park it in the garage, and the tires never wear. Drive it like my 89 year old mom and they won't wear. If you take it to the track you will see definitive wear patterns towards the edges of the tires. Get a really good driving 930 with an extra 100HP, you will wear the rears. You have the capability to transfer weight to the rear tires much faster now. It may be imperceptible to you, but the car knows it dynamically. This shows up in the tires. Are you noticing more understeer now on throttle in a turn?

BTW, what size are the rears? I have had various Korean and Japanese tires, al of which gripped well and wore really fast. I wear out Sumitomos on my stock Boxster in six months...the fronts last two years. My Victorracers have held up very well, however.

Is this a joke thread? If not, maybe providing more specific details might bring home the point. Like mileage and type of wear. Pics?

Do they look like this?

I am also experiencing this phenomenon but I have no RarelyL8 components on my car. Therefore your issue cannot be related to RarelyL8 products.
