All of the removable panels get painted today!!! Tomorrow morning I will reassemble for buffing and hopefully bring the Rat home on Thursday:D:D I have a feeling that Thursday night will not involve much sleep;)

Any chance you could lend me the slate grey paint sample card, now that your car is painted ? i just need it for a quick scan and can return it immediately... I will pay for all expenditures, even the card if you don't want it back... Anyone ? After a long hiatus all of a sudden my car is also ready for paint and the painter doesn't have equivalence codes from glasurit to sherwin williams.

Day 70: Today I got the call from the painter that the removable panels were done. The plan is for me to swing by at 8:00 am tomorrow morning and put the fenders, deck lid, doors and trunk lid on the car for the final buffing which should be done by the end of the day. The goal is to bring the car home on Thursday and start assembling! Here are some pictures of the finished panels

Here is the Dupont paint code for Slate gray for a 3 quart mix

First column is the tint, second column in cumulative grams of the mixture, and the third is the individual weights of the tints in grams.

If anyone in south FL needs to get their car painted I highly recommend Jacks Auto Body in Bonita Springs! They did an amazing job with my paint and gave me a really great deal. Peter, who has helped me a ton with this project currently has his truck there getting some bodywork done and is planning to paint his 914-6 creation the Yellow Submarine at this shop as well. The work they have done is just sublime:)

Here is a link to their website

Regards,

Thanks! I think the color is so cool because it changes so much under different light conditions. I am planning on being done by the end of the year, which I think is a reasonable goal. I am planning a weekend for the headliner and carpet and a weekend for the doors. Putting the glass back in will take another day and I will work on little odds and ends after work. I will be fitting the fenders and front and rear bumpers this weekend and hope to be installing the lights. The progress will go as they say in German

"Langsam aber sicher!!" ( Slowly but carefully )

Cheers,
Kristoph

Day 71: Today I spent two hours at the painters putting the doors, hood, and decklid back on the car. The guys at the shop were awesome and helped with holding the panels as I put everything back on! I put the latches back on for the hood and deck lid and also put the door strikers back on. I did this to prevent any damage during the buffing as the latches lock the panels in place. I also put in the new rubber stops on both decklid and hood to make sure that they don't rub against the body. The gold zinc plated latches look awesome against the slate gray. The old door strickers that still have red oversrpay do not. I will remove these once I get the car home and clean them up. As a tip to anyone reading this I taped all of the areas in the door jams so I could use a hammer to drive the pins in without damaging anything. This was a tip from the painter.

Looking very sweet. Love the vibrant 70's colors without doubt, but these understated colors are so cool in there own right! I'm planning Viper Green on my flared 72 and Beige on the narrow 73. I only hope it comes out nearly this nice.

wow.... the paintwork looks excellent

Thanks! Understated is exactly what I was going for. I personally think there are too many flashy "look at me" Porsche colors out there and wanted something more subtle. Good luck with your paint!

Thanks! If you ever need something painted I would recommend towing a car over from Miami. Things over here on the gulf side are a lot more relaxed and I would wager cheaper (especially when done out of season)

It's good to see how my car will look like in 4 weeks! If i'll lost my pictures taken during the painting prcess just ask you to send me yours :):).How nice would it be to meet with our cars. Exactly the same year, same color, same look. It's a shame we are on different continents...
