Day 88: Over the weekend I was able to finish installing the driver quarter window and started on the carpet. I am using the 3M 90 Spray adhesive and it is working fine so for. Currently I am almost done with the rear seats. I just need to install the upper portions of the seats and glue the carpet on the backs.

Kristoph, I'm jelous. Your project moves on really fast. Here in Hungary it's winter time, so i stop doing the things till March. My car goes into hibernation tomorrow. The last picture i've taken today after removed the minor imperfections and polished the whole car to mirror finish. I'm sooooo in love with this color! Keep up the good work i keep my eye on your thread! :)

Hi Laszlo! You car looks great. Did you remove the fenders, doors, and trunk and deck lids for the repaint? Did you do a two stage with clear coat or a single stage paint? Why do you have to go into hibernation? From your previous pictures it looked like you had a nice garage to work in.

RWebb 12-10-2012 12:52 PM

BTW - you want 2 people to put the rear window back in...

and, yes, I am also amazed at how fast you are moving this project along (esp. for a non-tenured faculty member[!])

A few pics of the cleaned passenger latch and dirty driver latch. Using the plastic spacer is key to keeping the window flush with the body when closed

This^^^... Thanks for posting this. I think I will mention it to Jason tonight because I don't recall those plastic spacers being around when I helped him with his quarter windows...

Kristoph,

Tha garage belonged to my craftsman. He finished his work so car car had to go. Now i have another projects to do, so that's why i'lll put my car into hibernation. But only the body, becuase my porsche mechanic starts to rebuild my engine. He will finish it till Spring. And i hope i can put the car together during Summer.

There isn't any clear coat on the paint because it's not correct for this model. We painted the body in 3 layers of PPG single stage paint to get enough material to buff it with 3000 grit paper and polish to mirror finish. After a month (as it completly dried out) it will get a special ceramic coating wich protects it from the elements and gives more shine.
Of course we painted the doors, fenders, lids separately.

Thanks Randy. I have had both the front and rear glass out and know how much of a pain it can be. In terms of tenure I am at a teaching institution that does not grant it. Instead we have three year revolving contracts. The set up here at FGCU is unique and I have really grown fond of it. Professors focus 75 to 90% of their time on teaching and the rest on service and research. The university is focused on undergraduate students which makes for a wonderful teaching environment:) The fall is my easy semester when I only teach 8 credits of class. In the spring I teach 12 credits so I wanted to get as much done on the Rat this fall as possible.

Day 89. Today I was able to finish the rear seats and all of the vinyl in the rear of the car. I was also able to put in the door plugs and the seat rails. This was the last day I had to work on the car until January so there will be no updates for a while. Happy Holidays and Happy New Year SmileWavy Thanks to everyone for their help and encouragement with the Rat this past year:)

Door plugs before and after. I left the bolts red because no one will ever see these again except for me if I work on the doors

B****y hell, there's no stopping you!

It's freezing cold in the UK at the mo, so no evening's down my workshop for me!

That interior looks fantastic, great work

I'll be seam sealing the floorpan welds this Saturday, then I can get some paint in there, and get the thermocoustic fitted

Let us all know how you get on with the front and rear window refit, any tips gratefully received!

Thanks! The car was actually outside before this picture. We had Tom's car in the garage to change the oil when it started pouring:eek:

Thanks Tony! I have refitted the windows before and the best tips I can give are to use parachute cord for the string in the seal. You will need 4 hands for this job with one person pulling the string inside and the other pressing gently on the windshield. I will post my install in early January.
