Fuchs muffler??

I asked a C2 owner what type of muffler he was running, as it emitted a most beautiful burble. To my surprise, he said it was a Fuchs. Anyone ever heard of Fuchs making mufflers? He loves his, with no resonance and a glorious song at speed.

I've never heard of a Fuchs muffler, but I have heard of idiots who buy 911's and then boast about the car when they don't have a clue.

Me, too, Jack. However, this owner chaired the DE, is very active in his chapter, and has been a P car owner for a long time. Says it even has a Fuchs logo stamped on the part. No credibility issues here, IMO. But still, where can I get that muffler???

Jack,

There's a guy in Melbourne selling a '84 3.2 Cabriolet and claims in his advertisment that it's turbocharged. I called him up to ask about the turbo installation, when it was done, by whom etc (at times, I can be a smart-ass ) and he blundered on telling me "oh, they were all turboed in 1984"!

I asked a few specific questions about the intercooler etc and he had no idea. Told me that he'd owned it for 10 years too...

Could he have meant it was a turbo-look Carrera?

Needless to say, he still sounds like an ignoramous idiot if he can't tell you about the car

Anyway, I also haven't heard of a FUCHS Muffler and believe me, when I did my turbo conversion, I considered EVERY muffler under the sun

Believe me, I *knew* I would take some grief on this post... kinda like asking about Bosch tires!
Actually, I was hoping that someone would know something about these obscure mufflers, a limited run maybe.
The owner is going to return his car to original condition and put it up for sale. I would be all over that muffler, except I would think it is too fat for my 3.2 vs his 3.6. I seem to recall that the pipes are .25 inch bigger.

Sorry dude. Just had to make that joke, even if t'was stupid

You may have issues mounting a muffler designed for a 964 on your 3.2 Carrera.

Just to give you some idea, I had dramas having a 930 muffler fitted to my factory 930 bodied Carrera! You would think that Porsche made the mounts the same for both of these turbo-bodied cars, but NOOOOOOOOOO! Different mounts/brackets.

Cost me an extra 4-$500 to have mounts specifically fabricated to fit it in, not to mention modify the inlet of the muffler to meet with the turbocharger.

Look carefully into this before you fit a muffler not intended for your 3.2. It can be more expensive than you think.

Just my 2c worth

No problem, but I think you missed my " I would be all over that muffler, EXCEPT"

I have been down that road before. Not interested in trying to fit something not designed for my 3.2. I think if I ever decide to change my exhaust, I will go the cheap Flowmaster route. Of course, my kids have been giving me grief about putting a Camaro muffler on my 911. Just trying to teach them value... and I am a cheap bastard!

Maybe I should tool up some Fuchs like logos, stamp it on some Flowmasters, call 'em Fuchmasters, sell 'em for $900!

Tough it is not a muffler, there is a German company called
Pepperl+Fuchs. They make electronic components for manufacturing industry. Similar to some stuff that Allen Bradley makes.
