Broken little stud - how to fix?

I'm redoing the interior. When removing the bracket where the safety belt retractor resides, the small stud on the top broke off.

Is this a removable stud? Is there a nut welded on the other side? Do I have to drill it out and tap the hole? Is there material to tap into?

Isn't that just a bolt coming in from the wheel well side? I had the same issue and I THINK that I just took that bolt out and replaced it with a new one.

It looks like you've added some sound proofing to the rear quarters (and other places I assume) - how did that work out?

That could be, but I don't see how to reach the bolt if there's one in there. Plus, it is attached somehow. Welded in place?

I did install soundproofing, but I am just getting to putting the car back together (and addressing this broken bit and other details). Therefore, I don't know how the mass loaded vinyl/closed cell foam will work - or if the rear upholstered panels will fit over it.

Jerome,

I have a 74 Targa and at teh moment my interior is out including the seat belt bracket. On my car that is a stud not a bolt. I would grind the existing stud down and tack on a new one.

Thanks, that's the clue I needed - I didn't want to have to tear out the sound insulation to figure out what's back there.

Grinding on the agenda.
