Thanks Jeremy. I had a brain fart moment. I now recall that the Zuffenhaus wheels are the ones Alton designed a few years ago that seem to be plagued with delivery times. My bad. Guess the two that compare are really True Design and Lindsey.

When I got my zuffenhaus 17x 8/9's for my narrowbody SC, I placed the order for polished lips and a custom color matched to the paint code on my car at the beginning of July, and I received them on the 21st.

They had, at the time, a bunch of parts around to make the non-rsr stuff with no delay. Immediate delivery.

I think that the wider wheels in the rear on widebody cars might be more scarce, but from what I was told, they are not having the same delivery issues any more.

Does TruDesign sell the 17" wheels without sending cores? I have nice set of 15" in 6 and 7's, but I need 17" in 8's and 9's. The website says:

"Porsche Fuchs wheels made from 15 to 16" and from 16 to 17", 2 piece design only."

I interpret that to say they can only make my wheels into 16".

BTW...Zuffenhaus has stopped production of 17" Fuchs and is not committing to a date when they will restart manufacturing.

Craig, the Trudesign and Lindsey's are both very heavy compared to the Zuffs. I've had all three, and there is no comparison to the Zuff's. What about the Alarcon knock offs? They are supposed to be super light? Light wheels really make a difference in a 2100 pound car...jus say'n

Hey John! I don't want to highjack FrenchToast's thread. I'll send you an email.

So, what's the bottom line? If I want to buy some 17 x 9 x 11 for my widebody, who do I go with?!

I was hoping to buy some Zuffs, but how long can I really wait?!

Thanks!

Rod,

My wait was three weeks, and that was only because I had the centers custom color matched to my car. Just call them and ask them. I think that the teething problems they were having a while ago have been improved significantly.

I called Zuf a few days ago looking for availability. I was put on the list. He was not sure as he cannot get commitment from his vendor for the production run. I am in the same boat looking for a widebody set that I can run w/o spacers that will fill out my wheel wells. Keep looking at the Fiske FM 5’s that can be had for $3k delivered. Still like the fuch look…….

Harvey Weidman once told me the center of these wheels was an exact replica...the best at the time...but the new owner of HRE had no interest in developing that market. There is an old thread regarding these, I considered a pair about the time Jeff hinted at what became the Zuffenhaus wheels. I am glad I waited, they have had some glitches but are great.

For those down under there is a guy in Melbourne who makes very good Fuch replicas. Name is Harry Witham.

I have set of 8" and 10" x 17" on my IROC replica and very happy with the look and performance of the wheels. A lot of the 911's in Targa Tasmania Rally use his wheels.

CraigT - no worries. I'm hoping this isn't so much my thread as the forum's so we can all see what out there.

Zuluracerx - these Alarcon wheels, any details? Website? I've never heard of them before. Thanks!

Take care

Check out the thread here on Group 4 Wheels in England, now making 15's and 16's and I'm told 17's. Cast yes but apparently used a good deal for competition.

TRE Motorsport makes 17" wheels. Also makes them without exposed bolts.

I just put a set of Linea Corse 17 x 7 and 9 on my 87. The look and drive great. I kept the old 16 x 7 and 9 BBS wheels in case I want to do a DE or autocross.

I was always under the impression that Lindsey Racing P2 were creme de le creme wheels of the 17inch fuch repos ... am I wrong with that assumption? I just got done collecting all my core wheels to send off to Mike to make up a set of 9.5 and 11.5 wheels for my rsr build. Any one who has these now what are your thoughts? Thanks.

Update!

Apparently the first set of 18" Fuchs made by Otto Fuchsfelge (the original producer) have been delivered. They are late offset.

Let me also update my original post by saying I am not a metallurgy expert, nor do I know much of anything about metallurgy, and am merely relating what I have heard from people. You obviously need to be careful choosing wheels for any car.

Take care!
