Yep .. not good .. and not serviceable .. if your not in a smog state look at the bypass pipes .. if smog needed get out the check book and don't try the universal .. big headache ...

Hi Andy, off the top of my head I would look for a used bypass pipe, remove the catalytic converter, and check the CIS system for proper functioning. If that works OK, not too rich, I would then put the catalytic converter back in and see what happens. If you still want it or need it for smog certification, that is. Also sometimes used ones are offered here that may still be good.

From the sound of the exhaust, I think I do have a miss. I have new plugs, cap and rotor. I can also check and make sure the firing order is correct. I am going to check for spark at all the wires then go from there. In my area of the state, I just need to pass visual inspection so the cat doesn't need to be functional on the emissions system. If it is a clog, I am just going to break out the middle honey comb section.

IF the cat is glowing on an SC, it's clogged. You need to take care of it immediately. If no smog is required, just cut it open, remove the element inside (DONT touch it with bare hands) and weld the housing back together. Instant cat bypass.

When my cat glows, I turn a hose on it. Normally solves the problem. 'Course, it's hard to get the cat out of the neighbors tree post hosing...

Thanks for the glove warning. Completely slipped my mind. Do you think it would be possible to break the inner part up with out cutting open and vacuum out the pieces.

You might be able to. I've always just cut and welded.

A long cheater bar, with a BFH will poke out the clogged pieces inside the cat....no need to cut it open in my experience.

That is good information to have! Just a couple of dumm questions: What is a cheater bar, and what is a BFH?
