915 Trans 5th gear problem

Never mind Decided to stay with standard 5th gear.

never experienced that, yet. that's a pretty high ratio. i hope it doesn't lug at freeway speeds. i have a 0.72 in mine and the shaft fits. about all you can do is have it ground out, unless powerhaus has the proper shaft.

John,
changed my mind on the 5th gear, think you are right, the ratio is awfully high. Where did you get your 0.72 gear. Would like to find an 0.72 set, any thought on where to get one? Also, what is number of teeth per gear, and the Letter designation of that gearset?

it's from a 1976 912E trans. tooth count, i'd have to research.

Sorry, couldn't access the site!

The 5th speed for a '76 912E is a 29/21, which gives you .7241. This 5th speed is designed for a R&P ratio of 7:31, and an absolute slug of an engine!
