Carrera Compression Testing Numbers
As some of you may have seen, my 1987 Carrera 3.2 is for sale. Today I did the compression test and the numbers are as follows:
Cylinder 1: 176 psi Cylinder 2: 175 psi Cylinder 3: 176 psi Cylinder 4: 174 psi Cylinder 5: 172 psi Cylinder 6: 175 psi For a stock USA engine with 220k, these are pretty good, yes? I did the test with the engine warm, WOT and no other spark plugs removed. I want to do a leak-down test, but I do not have any contacts local with an air compressor and the tool.

Those numbers seems excellent to me, and a remarkable improvement over what you initially posted. Curious what accounted for the difference between the first test and the second test?

I take that back, I know one local. Joe, do you have the leakdwon tester as well?
The initial test I left the throttle closed. The second time I had an assistant to keep the driver's seat warm, turn the key to crank the engine and also hold the throttle down.

Yeah JB you got the leak down tester? I may need a hand toooooooooooooooo.
Please correct me if I wrong but don't we want to disconnect the fuel (in my case disconnect the dme relay) to do compression test so fuel is not added to the compression readings??? We want it to crank not ignite, right?

Hewh! I thought I did it wrong all this time, Thanks Brother!
BTW, your numbers look great, within 10% of each other is ideal from what was told to me by the experts.

I have a compression checking device and portable Makita compressor.....no leak down equipment.
I don't think they are real expensive. I'm sure HF has a cheap China made one. Summit has them for 70 bucks and up.....Autozone as well. Split it with Brando, sell it when done. I've never had need of one, so not part of my collection.

I would recommend buying you leak down tester from Aircraft Spruce. Much better quality than the HF version....for just a few additional $.
http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/topages/cylpresse2a.php regards, al PS: I have both...............
