Kennedy Clutch problem
I recently installed a stage 2 Kennedy PP and disc in my 88 930 and have a problem. With all adjusted as it should be by Turbokraft (a reputable Porsche shop) the pressure plate will not disengage until the clutch pedal is almost all the way to the floor. Has anyone on this forum experienced a similar issue with Kennedy??
Thanks, Kelly |

My Carrera 3.2 with G-50 has no floorboard due to this. Clutch goes nearly all the way bottom in the master cylinder before disengaging.

Have you checked the actual clutch pedal lever arm? This is at the other end of the part with the pedal on it. It wears. Mine had an additional 1/4" slot in it after 25 years.
You can also adjust the clevis pin unit at the end of the clutch cable at the head of the tunnel in the cabin. If you screw it in it shortens the cable, essentially, and brings the pedal up. Most don't go here since its a royal pain in the ass, but it can be done. You can gain perhaps 1/2-3/4" which doesn't sound like much, but when you consider it is at the small end and then multiplied at the pedal end by 2-3x its a lot. Both of these are in the same spot so you can do them at the same time. A new clutch lever arm was $35 last time I had to buy one... I am sure they are cheaper used. If you find you need a new one this is the perfect time to rebuild the pedal cluster with brass bushings and powder coating. -Michael

Pretty sure the 88 930 still had the 4 speed 915 variant transmission with no hydrolic clutch so no M/C.

Thank you for the advice. I did adjust the clevis a little when I put a new cable in. The cable has no slack and there is almost no free play in between the cable arm at the gearbox and the arm that is on the release bearing shaft. I'm suspicious of a defective clutch and wondering if there is anyone out there that has had this same experience??
Thanks Kelly Quote:

I have had them not release at all. I sent it back but they could find nothing wrong. Installed it again and it was fine. It was funny that it worked after just shipping it back and forth.

That's unfortunate you had to do all the R&R. I suspect that may happen to me as well.
Thank you for sharing your experience. Kelly |

i had a similar experience several months back when i converted my 78 930 over to a ls7 engine. i installed a new KEP stage 2 clutch and pressure plate, new flywheel, new throwout bearing. i also rebuilt the pedal assembly, and replaced the bowden tube and clutch cable. when properly adjusted the clutch would not completely release. Monty at KEP requested that i send the clutch and pressure plate to them to test. accoding to monty the clutch diaphram was cracked and would not release the clutch plate properly. they replaced the pressure plate and upon reinstallation everything was fine. 'course i had to removed the engine, seperate the transaxle and remove components a couple of times. might talk to monty at KEP!

Thank you for sharing your experience. I'm assuming my clutch may have the same issue.
I like seeing the LS conversions here on this site, what a great upgrade for such a reasonable price! Building a 930 motor to perform like that is way more expensive and you can really beat on an LS without worry. Cheers! Kelly Quote:
