Question Simple question: sqeeks from door

The passenger side door of my '93 C2 squeeks every time I hit a bump (lots here--the roads aren't well maintained). Recently, when I had it at the shop for something else, I told them about it and they said that it was probably the lock mechanism and the quick and dirty to cure it was to shoot some lube down there, which they did. However, it didn't cure the problem. Suggestions?

Jon, try squirting a bit of silicon spray along the top of the window frame where it meets the felt strip that the door closes against. It worked on my SC I assume your later car is the same.

check to see if the striker plate and door check are worn/loose. You might want to take the panel off and see if any of the internal components (door lock actuator, wiring, window regulator, etc.) are loose as well. Other possibilities: loose exterior mirror or vent glass frame? Just some ideas.

I don't know if the mechanism is similar but I had the same prob on my 88 coupe. The bushing that hold all the rods for the door locks was worn and allowed them to jiggle around so I put cut up some foam sanding pads and put them between the rods and the door sheetmetal which keeps them from moving, but allows them to do their job. Not professional, but it works and it was cheap.
