Can I modify a 3.2 Carrera Cabriolet Engine mount to Solid type

I have a Carrera Cabriolet engine mount and I want to make it a solid mount

Can I modify this mount so that my engine mount is solid ?

I was thinking of Drilling 4 holes and adding the bolts/nuts like the solid type and cutting all the shock type stuff off.
Keep the bolts for the donut hole as well

Green = original threads
Yellow= new holes for Bolts/Nuts
Red= Cut off

These images were borrowed from an ebay auction

Any one done this before ?

This is all for my current project Dropped ROW 3.2 engine rebuiling trans + "while in there"

engine mount will be mated with the

Rebel Racing Engine mounts
Rebel Racing engine mounts!

Why not trade (with some cash in it for you) for a standard engine mount? The cabriolet engine mount and associated items are much more rare.

Why bother? The standard mounting bars are cheep, the same for almost 20 years and available from the recyclers like EASY.

I got all the tools laying around to do the job
But I don't have all the cash to buy another one...

Shops want an arm and a leg + I need to do this by tomorrow 9/17or tonight

It would take too long to get a piece...
According to PET the Item i need is specific to Carrera not 74-83

(Black Flag: Nervous break down)

I did it anyways !

This mount feels pretty thick (more so than I remember a Coupe version)

I put the mount on a vice, Drilled the holes where I wanted them

It took 4 different drill bit sizes
4 10mm nuts
4 washers
4 locking washers
4 10mm nuts

While I was at it, I removed the shock mount

It came out pretty good

This is what I started with
the shock was literally Blown! it could completely move with just a hand touch.

sorry about the pic
This is the hardware and 3 of the 4 drill bits used

Holes drilled before going to the last bit

Cutting off the shock mount

Final Product !

Not too bad
Eventually I will get the proper engine mount.. but for now this will do better than what I had.

Mounted on the engine

I'm hope this makes a bigger difference

I have always wondered what the shock on my engine mount is for and have now learned that my 3.2 engine donor must have been a Cabriolet. My car is a Coupe and, with the engine currently out, I would like to return to a solid engine mounting solution. It looks like I would need to swap out both the crossbar AND the large bracket that attaches directly to the engine - correct? If so, where could I source both pieces, please? Thanks!

Thanks, but I think I'd like to source a factory Coupe crossbar and console.

The first response to your thread informed you, or should have, that the cabriolet mount is rare and thus worth more.

Looks good! Keep in mind, per factory manual, when you install the engine, after the 4 engine mounts are tight, loosen your 4 bolts on the crossbar to let the engine 'settle' and not be tweaked by any angle you may have when you assembled the crossbar. Just loosen all 4 and then re-tighten them.

How much is a typical asking price for the complete assy? i.e. crossbar, console, damper, rubber isolator etc..

Its usually the other way around, a Cab that has the normal engine support.

Any Cab prior to 83 did not start their life as Cab, so if the conversion happened before 83, will have a solid engine support.

Yes the Cab version is almost 5 time more expansive ($737 vice $158).

What is gained by having a cab engine mount replaced with a coupe engine mount?
And what was the factory purpose for using a different mount for the cab?

This thread discusses why the cabs use a different engine mount Cab Owners, replaced your engine vibration damper?

As to why to switch to a solid mount, seems replacing it with a solid one on a non-cab would both reduce weight and complexity in the rear of the car (where you want to miminize weight, etc.)
