Two fan related questions
I'm disassembling my blower fan mechanism, and have a couple strange things.
First, the engine fan doesn't appear to be attached quite properly. Note the gap between the housing and the fan. How bad is this? ![]() Second, right now my blower and tubes are removed. Can I still drive the car without the tubes connecting the fan to the heat exchangers? I only have a short 4 miles commute, but I don't want to risk any overheat. ![]()

It appears that your are missing a couple of bolts that secure the shroud to the housing. They will secure it and obviously close up the gap.
You shouldn't have a problem driving 4-5 miles without the hoses in place(unless you live in LA where it takes you an hour to go that far ![]()

Loosen the strap that secures the fan housing. Wiggle the housing back. Just grab with one hand on each side and it should slide back. Retighten to 18ft-lbs. How is the gap at the bottom of the fan housing in relation to the crank pulley? If the housing is too far to the rear of the car it can rub the crank pulley. If you search there are some good photos of this.
ETA if you want to cap the hole where your heater tubes connect you should be able to find a cap at any hardware store with a decent plumbing supply. J Last edited by JAR0023; 08-26-2012 at 12:38 PM.. |

I'm thinking about rigging some oddball fans there - any idea how hot it gets down in the corners of the engine bay? 200? 300?

Why not just back date your heat and clean up the engine bay at the same time?
I doubt rigging a couple of fans will do much anyway.
