SC 1982 - Parking brake light permanently on

Hi all,

I have already been disassembling the hand brake to verify if the brown wire was disconnected... it was not.

Anyone has a clue of what might be the reason?

Do or did you have a rear brake light burn out or not lighting completely that you fixed recently?

On my car I have to disconnect the battery to clear the latched relay for the brake light after fixing a loose or burnt out brake lamp.

The brake light on is indicative of a pressure problem with the brake system. Mine was on for a long time, and it turned out my Master Cylinder was leaking. Replaced the MC and the light went off. Check your Master Cylinder and all brake lines/hoses.

On my '83 there is a switch under the parking brake lever. Cant check on my car but from memory the lower edge of the lever pushes on the switch such that it is closed when the parking brake is released. The switch has some vertical movement and is held in one place by a locking screw. Mine is at the highest point of travel but I still have the problem of the light staying on. If I release the parking brake then push down on it the light goes out but after driving for awhile the brake lever lifts off the switch just enough for the light to come on. Hope you find a solution. I guess you could always black insulation tape over the dash light?

Do the SCs have brake pad wear indicators as my Carrera has? If so, that would illuminate the same light.

I'm very determined to help somebody on Pelican after all the help I have received from this board...

Mine does not, but I think low brake fluid level might turn this light on as well.

That's often an early sign of battery overcharging VR/alternator problems.

Does the 82 have that reset button on the MC like earlier MY's?

Brake light...

I replaced a leaking caliper ('82 SC) and my light went out. I think the system senses pressure problems as well as when the e-brake is left on.
