The power windows of my 87 coupe were working fine lately but all of a sudden, they stopped today. There wAs a problem with the drivers side last week that was apparently temporarily fixed, but now, none of the switches work. It is so frustrating; the windows have been the bane of this car.
I wanted to check the fuses before I went to my guy tomorrow. Which fuse position is it in the box up front? Help is, as always, much appreciated.

The card will tell you which fuse it is or look for a melted one.

When mine blew last week in my 83, it was fuse #1.....closest to the fire wall. 8 amp.

Make sure that your wire loom is not stretched where the connector is ...
I had intermittent window problems with the passenger side until i removed the door panel to replace my door speakers, then i noticed that the wiring was stretched out and the contact was not good thus causing the window not to work at times ! Something to consider ! Cheers ! Phil

Bear in mind that there is a relay associated with the power windows. While I do not have the wiring schematic for an '87, if it is similar to an '85, the 12V routes first through the relay (in on pin 30, out through pin 87, and goes from there to fuse position #1 on the 3-fuse block... a 25 amp fuse. If your fuse is of lesser value, therein may lay your problem.
If you do not have voltage at that fuse and the relay is not energized, you would troubleshoot the relay's operate path, which is via a moderate sized (2.5mm) red wire ganged onto the hot side of fuses #1 & 2 of the 10-fuse block. Those are a direct feed from the battery's positive side accessory wires ( a stout 6mm red wire). The relay module has some peculiar electronics in it as well as the electro-mechanaical relay switch. Though there is a standing 12V on it at all times (pin 30), the relay doesn't go active until the ignition key switch is ON... (pin 86 via a separate switched 12V fed from the hot side of fuses 4 thru 6 (ganged) on the same block). Once the relay goes active, it will remain active because of the standing voltage, without regard to the state of the ignition key. This is so that someone sitting in the car can still operate the windows whether or not the driver took the key. The relay will remain active indefinitely after the key switch is off, and is a common cause for battery depletion. Opening either door grounds the door switch, and it in turn grounds out the P/W relay's electronics, thereby releasing the relay. The windows will not operate unless the relay is operated. Again, those fuse positions are from the '85 wiring diagram, and may be different from the '87, but it's a good starting point for you to check prior to removing door panels. Where is the relay you are talking about? Is it above the main fuse panel? I put in a new fuse but that didn't do anything (:-(

The relay he is talking about is located behind the gauges.
