Looks like a $100 difference between the M&K pre-muffler and the cat bypass. If there's not much sound difference, is it really worth it to go with the more expensive pre-muffler?

Didn't mean to divert this thread.... looks like there's lots of reading material out there re pre-mufflers & cat test pipes, so I'll just wade thru it.

That became known as "The Elbow" in our group of local guys who track the cars. My buddy Stefan had a local muffler shop weld a bend onto a 3 bolt flange and that was his track exhaust for a number of years. He ran The Elbow behind a straight cat delete pipe (no expansion/resonance chamber) and there was a noticeable difference between his sound and my car's sound. His sounded sorta rough and blatty. Mine was an early Fabspeed cat delete pipe with the expansion chamber. Mine sounded smoother but still very loud.

Watch me get "elbowed" at 1:10 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHYwvfPwxFk

Yes, I did not care for the sound. It reminded me of a '72 Skylark I drove in high school, after the muffler fell off. Not pleasant.

+1 the "elbow" is crazy loud. Buddy stuck it right on his '87 with cat.
