Rob, if you take a square and center it on the existing mount, you will see that it is exactly centered on the TB tube. Mine were almost exactly the same shape, just beefier. I can't imagine grinding the original ones out with the trailing arm and engine in the car. I guess it is possible, but difficult. I measured the original and recorded several reference points. I then ground the original one out marked where it was and clamped the new one in place. I then checked my reference points and it was spot on. I think the bigger challenge is to make sure they are aligned side to side. I will get to the other side this weekend and make sure they are in identical positions.

I am very excited!
After a full day of scrapping, degreasing, scuffing, and cleaning, I finally have the engine bay ready for paint! This is huge as the wife is out with the girls tomorrow night for a going away party (in advance of our move to San Antonio in two weeks). That's also why this is important. I can reinstall the oil tank and all other bits then install the engine on Saturday. Oh, happy days! I need it all together to tow it south, but I'm really excited about seeing the engine in its home. It will still be months before first start, but this is huge!!!

We're leaving for San Antonio next Saturday, so I needed to install the engine for the trip. I wasn't about to pull it out again, so I painted the engine bay

Thanks, Berk! I'm always up for some tequila.
Got the billy boats installed. Had to reverse the orientation of the studs on the passenger side. It was a pain, but they all came out intact using the double nut approach and a little heat. ![]() ![]() |

Nice! If you ever need a second set of hands on the weekend, give me a call, I am right down the pike from you.

I bled the rear brakes and lower the car to the ground for the first time in several months.
I bought this brake bleeder about 20 years ago. It comes with a variety of adapters and one screwed right on to the top of the master (same one that fit my Cobra master cylinders). One end clips over a tire valve stem for air: ![]() Air flows to a regulator that you adjust to 15 lbs. you fill the plastic reservoir with clean brake fluid, and attached the quick disconnect to the fitting on the mc adapter: ![]() Then open the bleeder until the bubbles stop. A few taps to the caliper helps: ![]() Easy as pie! Other than no front flairs and weenie wheels in the back, she looks ready to race. Maybe a bath first. ![]() I still have a long way to go, but the next time I work on her will be in Texas. Yeehaw! Last edited by mreid; 02-13-2013 at 04:22 PM.. |

You can actually go up a few PSI on the bleeder. We all use the Motive one, and I have had it cranked up to about 24PSI. It totally speeds up the process.

Thanks, Chris, it spiked up to about 30 psi when I first connected it and I thought a brake fluid explosion was eminent!
I wish we could have met before my move. I'll keep posting updates once I get settled. |

I pushed the Porsche out of the garage for the last time last night and of course we got a little snow. Here is the last shot taken from the second floor window just before I load it on the trailer and head south.

Finally was able to bring the car over this morning. I'll get back to work tomorrow.
![]() ![]() I took the white '74 out for a cruise around the hill country today. The 2.7 does ok. Not a lot of power, but enough. When warm, the oil pressure is very low, coming up with the rpm to about 30 psi. I'm sure it is tired. It also doesn't have hydraulic tensioners or a pop off valve for the cis. Just a matter of time...

Wow, what a sleeper. That pre-paint body hides some very nice attention to mechanical detail.
Looking forward to checking in on your progress
