You'd be better off using diesel.

Grease eater, it's supposed to be bio deg.
Spray brake cleaner, but don't spray it on anything that is supposed to be sealed (ball joints, CV's, etc.)

I would not use parts cleaner on greased parts. On cvs I use diesel, then super clean, then lots of hot water and dish soap. Finish with isopropyl or Brakleen.

Castrol makes a product that you can find at ace or parts stores, and that stuff eats through all grease that I throw at it.

Super clean is good stuff. It does an amazing job. Just don't leave it on very long or it will eat aluminum.

Simple Green also eats aluminum if it's left on too long, the nice thing about diesel and kerosene for cleaning is that they leave a protective coat, of course if you want clean metal that isn't so good

my parts washer has a 50/50 mix of diesel and purple degreaser. works well for everything but Mg. Al is fine in it.

I like the film at Bill says, but a quick spray of brake cleaner yields a perfectly clean part.

Yup.

If you use Super Clean or Purple Power, wear gloves and it's best to use it diluted or spray onto parts that are cool and already sprayed with water beforehand. Don't let it dry, and never spray onto plastc or rubber.

I like diesel because it cleans off easily. I feel that Simple Green leaves too much residue. You can smell it on your engine despite several rinse steps.

Awesome! Thanks for all the great input. I'm using the cleaner it to detail my '69E engine while it's out. Going to repaint all the panels and clean off the MFI unit and lines, green shroud cover, underside of the case, etc. Only has 53k miles on it so don't want to crack it open. I'm going to add collars to the oil feed tentioners though.

use wood scrapers first

then a non-polar solvent

then a polar solvent (detergent)

Catrol purple seems MORE aggressive than Simple Green & will remove paint

after, coat any Mg surfaces with Tectyl or something

What is the detriment to using Simple Green on tires? What would you use instead?
