Boge vs Bilstein
I have a stock 74 911, that is purely for weekend driving, never used fort rack or street racing use. How substantial is the ride superiority/difference between OEM Boge and HD Bilstein.
Thanks in advance.

You can drive mine and see, I have Bilsteins Sport Rears and HD fronts. Johnson Alignment recommends this for Street and occasional AX. I also have uped my T-bars and stabilizers ( anit-roll bars ). Not too rough but love the handling.

Hey!
If you'd like a ride in my car just get in touch. I've got the Bil's in mine and the Johnson's align/corner balance too.

Both are quality, reputable shops. Darren used to work at Johnsons. Steve at Johnsons is a good guy. Cant go wrong with either shop

Dont think either shop is open on weekends but I could be wrong. Johnsons is in Torrance, West End in Gardena.

Call the cops!
This thread has been hijacked.... ![]() (But at least we all know where a California shop is and when it's open...) I was actually interested in the comparison of Boge vs Bilstein for street use on a stock '78 SC suspension. Anybody just change strut inserts and rear shocks without updating torsion bars and sway bars?

LOL, Well like I wrote you can see how my car feels to help make your decision. We've probably drove pass each other on Western or Palos Verde Drive
![]() Too Bad JinKatin moved to San Diego he has Boge's dropped well below Euro height. My initial step by step mods were just inserts. did not like bottoming out on sudden road changes like in Culver city on Venice towards the beach.

![]() Seriously though, is the extra $250 to go to sport bilsteins vs stock boges going to make a difference for street driving? Are the dampning qualities that much better? will the ride be harsher? Will they last longer? etc. I have everything except the shocks and inserts for a suspension rebuild waiting to go in once I decide on my shocks and get them here. Draco, Saw your edit so I added mine... I guess the roads here are better or I don't need new shocks, as I haven't bottomed out yet in my car. Euro height, 83,000 miles.

Yes!
Sorry OP for the Hi-Jack but still on topic.
HD Fronts & Sport Rears, as recommended by Steve Alarcon at Johnsons. I wanted to go Sports Front but Steve said it would really stiffen the ride and advised against it. Since it is my daily and I have clients in her from time to time, I needed it not to be too brutal. Answer is yes, but all combined with upped T-bars, Sways and Front Strut Bar, believe it or not the Targa Body Brace really completed my set up. Had a well respected Pelican drive my car before and after and he was genuinely surprised at the day and night handling. He was quite skeptical, he wanted in his cab but, then he realized it was a no go so he opted for a roll bar. ![]() ![]() Quote:

I have a pair of both for the rear of my 911. I can't say I noticed a ride difference between them. However, the Bilsteins are a lot easier to install in the back as they take an allen key to hold the post in place while the Boge require a pair of vice grips.

I can confirm that te ride in Draco's car is firm but not harsh, very nice ride.

I have the Targa bars installed. I just restored and finished installing a factory hardtop tonight.
Should be tight and water tight for the winter, no flex in the hard top... ![]() Suspension refurb is next. Ball joints, turbo tie rods, bearings, all rubber bits etc. are sitting on the shelf. Just need to stop driving it for a while...
